About The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Recruitment Vetting Specialist to lead the candidate vetting process and ensure only the highest quality hires join our business.

This role requires a strong background in recruitment, compliance and background checks, with a keen eye for risk indicators and a methodical approach to candidate screening. As the Recruitment Vetting Specialist you will play a key role in safeguarding SBFM and our clients by managing the recruitment process for workers requiring pre-employment screening and security clearances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct end-to-end recruitment and vetting processes including criminal background checks, employment verification, education verification, right-to-work checks, credit checks (where applicable), and professional references.
  • Coordinate and manage security clearance processes (e.g., BPSS, DBS or equivalent) for candidates, depending on role requirements.
  • Analyse background check results and identify potential red flags or risk areas.
  • Collaborate with legal and Head of Recruitment and Onboarding to escalate and address sensitive findings.
  • Liaise with hiring managers to understand vetting requirements per role.
  • Access external client and vetting portals to upload candidates and process vetting applications, where necessary.
  • Liaise with external background screening vendors and monitor service-level agreements and quality control
  • Update and maintain records of vetting and expiry dates on internal database
  • Process vetting renewals prior to the expiry of candidates vetting to ensure continuity of qualified workers.
  • Actively run advertising campaigns to attract candidates into vetted roles, canvassing individuals with access to DBS update service.
  • Ensure as strong pipeline of vetted talent, actively monitoring qualified workforce levels, and recruit candidates with clearance into areas where cover is required for ad-hoc absence and leave.

Experience And Qualifications

  • Proven experience (3+ years) in recruitment, compliance, background screening, or a security-focused HR role.
  • Highly organised with the ability to recruit in high volume across multiple sectors
  • Familiarity with vetting frameworks such as BPSS & DBS.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities; capable of handling sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience working with applicant tracking systems (ATS), vetting software, and background check platforms.
  • Safer Recruitment Qualification desirable but not essential as course can be provided.
