Job Summary
We are looking for a confident and hands on Quantity Surveyor to join a well established subcontractor working on commercial projects across schools and prisons and civil engineering projects. This is a project-level QS role where you’ll take full ownership of your work, managing multiple jobs independently and playing a key role in controlling costs and ensuring financial success from start to finish. Ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, responsibility, and progression opportunities.
Duties
- Control costs and ensure commercial success in line with budgets and contract agreements.
- Prepare accurate valuations, forecasts, and financial reports throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work with NEC and JCT contracts confidently and independently.
- Collaborate with site teams and commercial managers to monitor progress and control risk.
- Handle subcontractor payments, variations, and final accounts.
- Use software tools such as Bluebeam and Microsoft Office to manage project data and documentation.
- Support procurement processes and ensure compliance with all contract requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must have experience working for a subcontractor – we are not considering main contractor backgrounds.
- Ideally from an apprenticeship background, with strong site-based experience.
- 3–5 years’ experience post-apprenticeship in a similar QS role.
- Experience working on groundworks, utilities, or commercial builds (especially schools and prisons) is beneficial.
- Solid understanding of cost control, contract administration, and project reporting.
- Proficient with NEC and JCT forms of contract.
- Competent using Bluebeam, Excel, and other key project tools.
- Confident, proactive, and punctual — able to work independently on multiple live jobs.
