You will play a vital role in improving the lives of young people (service users) on a daily basis in an interesting environment where every day is different. Red Kite View has a 6-bedded Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a 16-bedded General Adolescent Unit (GAU). This post will be based on GAU.

Please be aware that we expect a high volume of applications to this vacancy - we advise an early application to avoid disappointment - it may close early if the maximum number of applications is reached.

Your responsibilities will include: -

Providing a high standard of care by assisting in and carrying out a range of duties under the direction and supervision of a registered clinician.

Work as part of the clinical team, assisting in delivering patient centred care, which promotes privacy, dignity and respect for the young person.

Assist with the care of young people, particularly in relation to activities of daily living and other treatments as indicated by the registered nurse and other care professionals.

Actively participate in group work and therapeutic activities under the supervision of a registered nurse and other care professionals. To offer support to young people through effective communication and promote communication with young people who have difficulties

It is important that the young people in our care have connections with the community outside of hospital and so our Healthcare Support Workers will work with our services in the local community as well as with ward-based activities. This may include accompanying a young person to an appointment, shopping, or a visit to a community centre for example.

The Trust encourages the use of the wisdom gained through personal lived experience, to inspire hope in others and the belief that recovery is possible for all, we therefore welcome applications from people that have personal experience of mental health illness or care/live with someone that does.

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialised services across the country. As a teaching trust with strong links to local universities, we are a centre of excellence for teaching, research and development.

There are many benefits of working for LYPFT including fantastic employee wellbeing support, 27 - 33 days annual leave, flexible working and remote working arrangements, the NHS Pension Scheme, coaching, support and opportunities for career development and training and education support alongside a range of exclusive discounts and payment schemes including for cars, extra leave days and more NHS Discount Offers.

We also have an incredible bank department, offering variety of roles in nursing, allied health professions, healthcare support worker and administration clerical. Permanent employees are automatically added to bank.

Applicants should be aware that any individual requiring a visa to work in the UK, the Trust provides sponsorship for registered healthcare practitioner roles only (this does not include Healthcare Support Workers). This is an essential requirement, and the Trust is unable to offer you a role if you do not meet Trust requirements for sponsorship and Home Office requirements for a visa.

You will have great interpersonal skills and be able to establish a professional working relationship with young people and families. You will be cool in a crisis; it's a busy clinical area and we manage lots of risk-taking behavior and deliberate self-harm. It is a demanding yet rewarding role.

Ideally, you will have experience of working in mental health services or working with young people in an inpatient setting, although thats not essential. Your values are more important to us, and you will receive full training and induction in this role.

We are looking for someone who genuinely wants to make a lasting impact on young people, who insists on doing things with care and diligence and can think on their feet.

The CYPMHS inpatient unit structure has been newly designed specifically to enable and encourage progression, your development is vital to the service, so you will be fully supported to continue to progress within your career.

Experience of working with a range of service users with complex mental health needs and/or a learning disability and/or autism is very beneficial, coupled with a minimum L2/L3 NVQ qualification in Health & Social Care (or commitment to achieve within 6 months of commencement), or demonstrable equivalent experience in the role of a health support worker and/or demonstrable lived experience.

Communication is key for this role, you will therefore have outstanding communication skills to enable you to work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, young people and their family and/or carers.

You will be able to manage your own time effectively, work well in groups or 1:1 with service users and colleagues, be proactive in getting on with your work, but also know when to ask for advice and support.

We recruit people based on their values and qualifications (where required) and believe that their lived experience is an advantage, this means that together we are as diverse as the communities we care for. Simply put, when we employ caring people who act with integrity and have the right skills, we can give those with mental health challenges, learning disabilities and neurodiversity high-quality care and support to live fulfilling lives, and make our staff feel purposeful, happy and valued.
