Flutter Technology is hiring a Cloud Engineering Manager to lead a team building our strategic AWS-based Internal Developer Platform (IDP). This platform powers global services for Flutter’s major betting brands, boosting engineering productivity. You'll define the platform's technical direction, influence technology choices, and drive modernization, ensuring its evolution meets internal team needs.

You will be an engineering leader with a clear technical vision and passion for cloud-native practices. You excel at strategy definition, adoption promotion, and ensuring security, reliability, and efficiency in sophisticated, global environments. You build strong relationships with others and possess demonstrable experience leading engineering teams on large-scale cloud, platform, or infrastructure projects, combining people leadership, technical expertise, and critical thinking.

About Division/Function

Flutter consists of two commercial divisions (Fanduel and International) and our central Flutter Functions; COO, Finance & Legal. Here in Flutter Functions we work with colleagues across all our divisions and regions to deliver something we call the Flutter Edge. In Flutter COO we work with experts across Flutter to build, deploy and communicate the Flutter Edge. Together we cover Product & Payments, Technology, Sportsbook Product & Trading, People, Property, Corporate Communications and Strategic Partnerships & Transformation.

What You’ll Do

  • Team Leadership & Management : Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of cloud/platform engineers, fostering a collaborative culture focused on ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Planning & Direction : Define the long-term vision and roadmap for the IDP, aligning with business objectives and technology strategy.
  • Platform Design & Implementation Oversight : Guide the team in designing and operating robust, scalable, secure, and cost-effective IDP components on AWS. Uphold standard processes for Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, Kubernetes, and Observability.
  • Engineering Excellence: Advocate for standard methodologies in engineering, offering technical mentorship on design, code quality, automation, and operational readiness.
  • Collaboration & Communication : Communicate with software developers, product managers, architects, and security teams to gather requirements and manage expectations.
  • Performance Monitoring & Optimization : Oversee platform health, performance, and cost, driving initiatives for efficiency and reliability.
  • Cloud Platform Expertise & Guidance : Apply strong understanding of AWS services and cloud-native technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, serverless, networking, security) to guide architectural decisions.
  • Process & Standards : Establish and drive adoption of standard operating procedures, security controls, and runbooks for the IDP.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Management : Liaise with third-party vendors and build relationships across group functions.

How You’ll Do It

  • Leadership & Management: Shown experience leading and mentoring engineering teams, setting direction, and getting results.
  • Cloud Platform Expertise: Strong understanding and practical experience with AWS and its core services.
  • Technical Proficiency: Solid background in platform engineering, including:
    • IaC: Crossplane, Terraform, CDK
    • Containerization & Orchestration: Kubernetes, EKS
    • CI/CD: GitOps, ArgoCD, AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions
    • Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Open Telemetry
    • Scripting/Programming: Python, Go, Bash
    • Git and GitHub workflows, Linux fundamentals
  • Platform Engineering Experience: Prior experience building or leading teams responsible for enterprise-level cloud platforms.
  • Technical Roadmapping: Skill to outline technical roadmaps and align platform initiatives with business objectives.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and influencing skills across diverse technical and non-technical team members.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to guide teams through complex technical challenges.
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience working in and leading teams within agile environments.
  • Experience with incident, change, problem, and risk management frameworks.
  • Experience leading teams through large-scale cloud migrations or modernizations.
  • Deep expertise in areas like Kubernetes networking/security, advanced CI/CD patterns, or cost optimization strategies.
  • Experience handling platform budgets and vendor relationships.
  • Relevant AWS or Kubernetes certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, CKA/CKS).
  • Previous hands-on software engineering experience, particularly with API strategy.
