Relocation Support: Up to £8,000 available

Role Overview
The Lead Python Developer will act as a senior technical consultant and team leader, responsible for driving high-quality software engineering delivery. This includes technical oversight, stakeholder engagement, people management, and community leadership. The role offers a hands-on opportunity to shape both product outcomes and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as technical subject matter expert, ensuring best practice in Python development
- Oversee software delivery, ensuring alignment with business needs and user outcomes
- Lead the design and management of development and deployment pipelines
- Monitor team workload, identify bottlenecks, and adapt plans to meet operational priorities
- Present technical solutions and prototypes to internal and external stakeholders
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, and development of engineers
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and represent the engineering team at external events (e.g., blogs, conferences)
Candidate Profile
Essential:
- Advanced expertise in Python development and full-stack capabilities (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Strong experience with AWS Serverless tools (Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, CloudWatch, CloudFormation)
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage delivery to high standards
- Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture
- Experience in building RESTful APIs and user-centred digital solutions
- Skilled in agile methodologies including Scrum, Kanban, and TDD
- Competency in Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, Terraform, or ARM)
- Proficiency in CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, AWS CodeBuild, Azure DevOps, Atlassian)
Desirable:
- Experience delivering services in GOV/NHS digital environments
