About the Opportunity

At Lloyds Banking Group, we're moving to the next stages of our digital transformation, and it's our job within the Chief Security Office (CSO) to ensure that we keep our customers, colleagues and assets safe from threat

We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to drive technical leadership and delivery across two critical feature teams: eDiscovery and Insider Risk Management. This role provides a remarkable opportunity to shape the future of our security capabilities, focusing on data discovery and protection, and internal threat mitigation.

Taking on the responsibility of Lead Software Engineer means directing architectural decisions, promoting standard processes in engineering, and ensuring successful feature delivery. You'll collaborate closely with the Product Owner and act as a Line Manager for engineering colleagues. Your influence will span from hands-on development to team mentorship and ownership of complex, high-impact applications.

This is an exciting time for our team as we move towards using modern cloud architectures like Google Cloud Platform (GCP), presenting the opportunity to lead the transition to scalable, secure, and cloud-native solutions across our security platforms.

What You'll Be Doing

Technical Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead the end-to-end technical execution across the eDiscovery and Insider Risk Management feature teams.

  • Collaborate with Product Owners to define, refine, and deliver on product roadmaps.

  • Ensure delivery meets security, scalability, and performance standards.

Engineering Management

  • Serve as a line manager to a team of engineers, providing guidance, performance evaluations, and career development support.

  • Cultivate a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.

  • Take ownership of applications across the SDLC, from design to deployment.

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and deliver tactical and strategic plans aligned with the division's goals.

  • Handle budgets and resourcing plans in collaboration with senior leadership.

Process & Practice

  • Drive implementation of secure development practices and formal development frameworks.

  • Continuously identify and implement process improvements to enhance delivery speed and quality.

  • Lead the evolution of test strategies, ensuring high standards of code quality and reliability.

Innovation & Improvement

  • Evaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks, and methodologies.

  • Guide teams in adopting modern development tools and DevSecOps practices.

Why Lloyds Banking Group

We're on an exciting journey to transform our Group and the way we're shaping finance for good. We're focusing on the future, investing in our technologies, workplaces, and colleagues to make our Group a great place for everyone. Including you.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience leading software development teams, ideally within a security-focused or regulated environment.

  • Deep expertise in backend and/or full-stack development; proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, or Go).

  • Proven track record to handle complex technical initiatives across multiple teams or workstreams.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and infrastructure-as-code is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of security engineering principles and compliance frameworks.

  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical.

  • A passion for mentoring, coaching, and developing engineering talent.

  • Prior experience with tools or platforms related to eDiscovery, Insider Risk Management, or data governance is a plus.

Any experience of these would be really useful:

  • Experience implementing scalable SaaS platforms with robust logging and monitoring.

  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards such as GDPR, SOX, HIPAA, etc.

What Success Looks Like

  • Timely, high-quality delivery of features aligned with product strategy.

  • Strong engineering culture with a focus on quality, collaboration, and continuous learning.

  • Scalable, maintainable, and secure software systems that support the organization's security posture.
