What you’ll do:
We are on the lookout for our next Head of Estimating to join our growing Rail and Infrastructure Division. Reporting to the Commercial Director this role encompasses several critical responsibilities and functions, focusing on overseeing the cost estimation processes for rail projects. You will be integral to the team for ensuring that project bids are competitive, accurate, and feasible.

Leadership and Management:
This is a great move for an experienced Estimating professional at Senior Estimator level or above. This is a hybrid role and we can be flexible on location as most of your meetings will be on Teams however you may have to visit our Billericay and London offices from time to time as well as national client meetings as and when required.

What you’ll do:

You will be integral to the team for ensuring that project bids are competitive, accurate, and feasible.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage the estimating team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
- Ensure the team adheres to best practices and industry standards in estimating procedures.
- Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for rail projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Review and analyse project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to understand the scope of work.
- Prepare budgets and financial forecasts for upcoming projects.
- Monitor and control project costs, ensuring estimates align with actual expenditures.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of tenders and bids for rail and infrastructure projects.
- Ensure all bid documents are comprehensive, competitive, and comply with client requirements.
- Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates.
- Develop mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates are realistic and achievable.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for accurate estimates.
- Implement cost control measures to ensure projects stay within budget.
- Provide regular reports on estimating activities, cost variances, and financial performance to senior management.
- Review and refine estimating processes and methodologies to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in rail project estimation.
- Ensure all estimating activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain high standards of quality and accuracy in all estimating deliverables.

- As well as your estimating experience any kowledge of rail infrastructure and systems, including track, signaling, and electrification would be ideal but is not essential
- Proficiency in estimation software and tools commonly used in the industry.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to evaluate complex project requirements and develop accurate estimates.
- Experience in project management, particularly in large-scale rail projects.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Solid understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and cost control.
- Strong leadership skills to manage and motivate the estimating team of 2.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
- High attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of estimates and bids.
- Accurate and competitive estimates are crucial for winning contracts in a highly competitive rail industry.
- Ensures projects are financially viable and profitable for the company.
- Helps identify and mitigate potential financial risks associated with project estimates.
- Efficient estimation processes lead to optimal allocation of resources and cost savings.
- Provides valuable insights for strategic planning and decision-making within the rail division.
