Contract type: Full time

Planet Sport Group

The Platform Engineer at Planet Sport Group will be an experienced engineer, specialising in cloud infrastructure, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and other Development Experience (DX) aligned tools and frameworks. We have a wide cloud estate currently which we will look to consolidate moving forward.

There will be ample opportunity to influence the direction we take when it comes to our cloud infrastructure as we build out future services and modernise existing ones. We encourage the idea of “serverless-first”, so a key part of this role is supporting the engineering teams in this endeavour through sensible configuration and tooling as well as providing best-practice guidance.

As we move forward and grow, the more services and resources we will be using. As such, strong monitoring and logging strategies are a must which is an area this role will be accountable for. This includes ensuring we do everything in a cost-effective and sustainable manner and advising when and where improvements can be made.

Responsibilities

Platform Development & Tooling

Design and build the standards and tooling to allow developers to deploy services easily and independently. Focus is on enabling the continual deployment cycles of our software engineering department.

Infrastructure Management & Automation

Help to implement, guide and support the engineers in developing world-class CI/CD processes and tooling. This includes the infrastructure resilience and security utilising Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure consistency and stability.

Monitoring & Observability

Ensure all our services have great monitoring and observability. Key focus is on making this transparent and “self-service” to empower our teams to write great software by giving them accurate and useful metrics.

Developer Experience (DevX)

Help to build and drive a DevX culture where we put the experience of our engineers front-and-centre to remove any blockers/annoyances they may face in their day-to-day duties.

Mentoring & Coaching

Guiding and supporting less experienced team members, fostering their growth and helping them excel in their learning journeys.
