Mid Market Senior Underwriter - Property & Liability New Business - #2077391

We're recruiting for a Mid Market Senior Underwriter - Property & Liability to lead the New Business Underwriting team in Leeds for a leading UK insurer. This is a leadership role where you'll deliver strong financial performance, coach and develop your team, and shape underwriting strategy while building strategic broker relationships. You'll have genuine influence over portfolio performance, act as technical referral point, and play a key role in driving competitive positioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the New Business Underwriting team to deliver strong financial performance and great customer outcomes, overseeing complex cases and supporting strategic trading decisions across Property & Liability portfolios
• Act as technical referral point for the team, providing expert guidance on complex risks while shaping underwriting strategy and ensuring competitive positioning in the regional market
• Coach and mentor underwriters to drive technical development, support licence progression, and build team capability while fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture
• Work closely with brokers to build strategic relationships, understand market dynamics, and influence portfolio strategy while managing performance analysis and making strategic trading decisions

Qualifications:

• Proven leadership experience in Property and Liability underwriting with track record managing complex portfolios, delivering financial performance, and driving results through people development
• Strong account management and broker relationship skills with ability to analyse portfolio performance, make strategic trading decisions, and understand market trends and competitive positioning
• Solid technical knowledge of Property and Liability underwriting principles, FCA requirements, and regulatory frameworks combined with confident coaching and mentoring capabilities
