Head of Security Operations & Engineering | AWS, AppSec, Security Engineering, AI led Security Operations | £125,000 + 20% bonus

A large scale consumer technology business is looking for a Head of Security Operations & Engineering to help shape the next phase of its cybersecurity capability.

This is a senior leadership role within a growing security function, with responsibility for building an engineering led approach to security operations in a complex, fast moving environment. The team is already established and will continue to grow, with a clear focus on modernising capability and improving maturity.

The role will suit someone who combines strong security engineering depth with the leadership skills to scale a function, influence senior stakeholders and help move away from traditional operational models towards a more efficient, AI enabled approach.

Head of Security Operations & Engineering | Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Security Operations & Engineering function
• Build an engineering led approach to cyber operations with a strong focus on automation and AI enabled capability
• Improve security maturity and help drive the function towards a defined target operating model
• Strengthen the team’s position and effectiveness within the broader technology organisation
• Work closely with other technology leaders in a federated environment
• Help shape the future direction of operational security capability and SOC strategy
• Support secure software development and application security practices across the business
• Provide leadership across cloud security, identity security and detection engineering

Head of Security Operations & Engineering | Requirements

• Strong background in security engineering leadership
• Experience building and scaling technical security teams
• Strong understanding of AWS cloud security and modern enterprise security tooling
• Good background in AppSec and secure SDLC
• Experience with technologies such as Splunk, Wiz, CrowdStrike, Okta, SailPoint and GitHub security tooling
• Able to balance strategic leadership with enough technical credibility to go deep when needed
• Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to lead through ambiguity
• Experience working in complex enterprise environments
