Randstad Education is currently recruiting dedicated and enthusiastic Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistants to join our primary supply team in Leeds. Starting this September, this role is perfect for anyone looking to support children through the crucial transition from early years play into more structured learning, all while enjoying complete control over their working week.

The Role

As a supply KS1 TA, you will be working across Years 1 and 2 in various local Leeds primary schools, delivering targeted support to help children thrive in reading, writing, and early mathematics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Phonics Support: Deliver small group or 1:1 interventions using recognised phonics programs (such as standard UK schemes like Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds).

  • Bridging the Gap: Help children transition smoothly from the play-based EYFS environment into a more formal classroom structure.

  • Core Subject Boosting: Work closely with the class teacher to support pupils who need an extra boost in reading comprehension and basic numeracy.

  • Positive Behaviour Management: Maintain a focused, encouraging, and safe learning environment using praise and positive reinforcement.

Requirements
  • Essential: Applicants must have previous UK experience working within a primary school setting, ideally with KS1 children.

  • A strong foundational knowledge of the UK National Curriculum for Key Stage 1.

  • A patient, adaptable, and encouraging approach to learning.

  • An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or the willingness to apply for one through Randstad).
