We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing UK charity dedicated to supporting terminally ill, disabled, seriously unwell and abused children, as well as young carers, through life-changing respite breaks, holidays, experiences and day trips.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Board of Trustees, the COO will play a pivotal role in ensuring the charity operates effectively, sustainably and in line with its mission.
This is a unique opportunity for a strategic and operational leader who is passionate about making a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable children and families across the UK.
You will oversee day-to-day operations, support organisational growth, strengthen governance and compliance, and help ensure the charity continues to deliver exceptional outcomes for beneficiaries.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership across the charity.
- Support the CEO in delivering the organisation's vision, objectives and long-term strategy.
- Lead and develop operational processes, systems and governance frameworks.
- Oversee organisational performance, risk management and compliance activities.
- Manage budgets, operational planning and resource allocation.
- Support fundraising, partnership and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Lead, inspire and develop a committed team of staff and volunteers.
- Build strong relationships with trustees, donors, supporters and external partners.
- Ensure the charity continues to deliver high-quality services and experiences to beneficiaries.
- Drive continuous improvement, efficiency and sustainable growth across the organisation.
About You
We are looking for an experienced senior leader who combines commercial awareness with a genuine passion for the charitable sector.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience operating at Director, Head of Operations or COO level.
- Strong leadership and people management experience.
- Excellent strategic planning and organisational development skills.
- Experience managing budgets, governance and compliance frameworks.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership-building capabilities.
- The ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational delivery.
- Outstanding communication and influencing skills.
- A passion for improving the lives of children, young people and families.
Experience within the charity, not-for-profit, healthcare, social care or public sectors would be highly advantageous, although applications from commercially minded leaders with transferable experience are also welcomed.
