About the Role

This pivotal leadership position requires an inspirational educator to spearhead the delivery, strategy, and development of the Advanced Level Mathematics curriculum. The role demands an expert practitioner who can contextualise complex mathematical theories to align with advanced manufacturing, robotics, software architecture, and structural design. Working closely with senior leadership, the postholder will design a rigorous, sequenced curriculum that integrates the institution's core employability skills, ensuring that learners graduate with both exceptional academic credentials and the sharp analytical mindset required by modern industry.

Key Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Holds QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification.
  • Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
  • Leadership Experience: Prior experience acting as a Second in Department, Key Stage Coordinator, or an established Head of Department. .
  • Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK.

  • Advanced Subject Knowledge: Mastery of pure mathematics, mechanics, and statistics up to and including Further Mathematics level.

  • Time Optimisation: Exceptional organisational skills required to balance heavy academic tracking with active teaching and leadership demands.
Core Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Leadership: Design, implement, and continuously refine a high-quality, sequential A-Level and Further Mathematics curriculum.
  • Academic Standards: Monitor, track, and analyse student intervention data to maximise progress and ensure top-tier examination results.
  • Contextualised Learning: Collaborate with engineering and computer science departments to integrate real-world technical problems into mathematics lessons.
  • Staff Development: Line-manage, mentor, and coach departmental staff, conducting regular performance reviews and sharing best practices.
  • Employer Collaboration: Liaise with university sponsors and industry partners to incorporate expert-led masterclasses and real-world data sets into the learning plan.
  • Teaching Excellence: Deliver consistently outstanding, high-impact lessons across Key Stage 5 Mathematics modules.
  • Enrichment Management: Oversee and organise extracurricular mathematical challenges, university physics/maths faculty visits, and STEM competitions.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage the departmental budget effectively, ensuring teaching staff have access to premium digital and physical mathematical resources.
  • University Preparation: Provide specialised guidance and mock-interview preparation for students applying for highly competitive STEM degrees (e.g., STEP/MAT papers).
  • Policy Compliance: Uphold the wider pastoral, safeguarding, and professional standards of the academy, cultivating a mature, respectful learning culture.
