Corporate Tax Assistant Manager / Manager – Leeds

£45,000–£65,000 depending on experience | Hybrid working

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Corporate Tax professional to join a highly regarded accountancy practice in the Leeds area.

The firm has an established corporate tax team, a strong regional client base and an excellent reputation for developing its people. This role will be predominantly focused on corporate tax compliance, while also providing exposure to advisory work as your experience and confidence develop.

The position can be tailored around the successful candidate’s level. Applications are welcomed from experienced Corporate Tax Seniors or Assistant Managers ready to progress, as well as established Managers seeking a varied portfolio and greater responsibility.

This would suit someone looking for a supportive environment, high-quality clients and a clear route for progression without moving into a role that is entirely advisory-led.

Duties and responsibilities

You will take responsibility for managing and delivering corporate tax work across a varied portfolio of clients.

Your duties are likely to include:

  • Managing a portfolio of corporate tax clients across a range of sectors.
  • Preparing and reviewing corporation tax computations and returns.
  • Reviewing work completed by junior members of the team.
  • Ensuring compliance work is completed accurately and in line with HMRC deadlines.
  • Managing client information requests and monitoring progress against filing deadlines.
  • Reviewing statutory accounts and identifying relevant tax adjustments.
  • Advising clients on routine corporate tax queries.
  • Identifying opportunities where clients may benefit from wider tax advice.
  • Supporting clients with tax payments, enquiries and HMRC correspondence.
  • Working closely with audit, accounts and wider advisory teams.
  • Coaching and supporting junior colleagues.
  • Assisting senior managers and partners with more complex assignments.
  • Contributing to the continued development and growth of the corporate tax team.

Alongside the core compliance work, there will be opportunities to gain exposure to areas such as:

  • Group reorganisations and restructuring.
  • Capital allowances.
  • Research and development tax matters.
  • Share schemes and employee incentives.
  • Business acquisitions and disposals.
  • Loss relief and group relief.
  • International and cross-border tax issues.
  • Tax planning for owner-managed and growing businesses.

The balance between compliance, advisory work, portfolio management and team supervision can be shaped around the successful candidate’s experience.

Experience and qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience working in corporate tax within an accountancy practice.
  • Strong knowledge of UK corporation tax compliance.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing corporation tax computations and returns.
  • The ability to manage multiple client deadlines and prioritise workloads.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.
  • Confidence communicating directly with clients and colleagues.
  • Experience reviewing work and supporting junior team members, particularly at Manager level.
  • An interest in developing broader corporate tax advisory experience.

A professional qualification such as CTA, ACA or ACCA would be advantageous.

  • The firm will also consider candidates who are qualified by experience or approaching qualification, provided they can demonstrate strong and relevant corporate tax experience.
