Elevation Recruitment Group

Elevation Recruitment Group are working with a well-established engineering business to recruit an Engineering Manager to lead and develop a multi-skilled workshop team.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, responsible for overseeing refurbishment and repair projects from initial assessment through to machining, fabrication, assembly and final testing. The successful candidate will combine strong mechanical engineering knowledge with the ability to coordinate people, resources and projects effectively.

The Role

Reporting into the wider engineering function, you will co-manage the workshop alongside the Workshop Manager, providing technical direction across a team of Machinists, Mechanical Fitters and Stores personnel.

The workshop operates a broad range of heavy engineering equipment, including horizontal and vertical borers, CNC lathes, milling machines and balancing equipment.

You will take ownership of incoming repair and refurbishment projects, assessing equipment, developing appropriate repair strategies and ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Co-manage the workshop operation, providing technical leadership across machining, fabrication, fitting and stores activities.
  • Assess incoming repair and refurbishment projects and determine appropriate engineering solutions and repair strategies.
  • Take ownership of projects from initial evaluation through fabrication, machining, assembly and testing.
  • Produce detailed machining, fabrication and engineering drawings using CAD or equivalent software.
  • Plan and coordinate workloads across machining, fabrication and fitting teams, ensuring effective use of people, machinery and resources.
  • Monitor project costs, lead times and resource requirements to ensure work is delivered efficiently and commercially.
  • Maintain high standards of Health & Safety across the workshop, ensuring compliance with company procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Assist with the preparation of RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) where required.
  • Drive continuous improvement across workshop processes, engineering standards, quality and operational efficiency.
  • Liaise directly with customers where required to understand technical requirements and communicate proposed repair solutions.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to workshop personnel, helping to develop engineering capability and best practice.
About You

The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical engineering background, ideally gained within a heavy engineering, refurbishment, repair or manufacturing environment.

You will be comfortable assessing mechanical equipment, developing practical engineering solutions and working closely with machinists, fabricators and mechanical fitters to deliver projects from concept through to completion.

You will ideally have:
  • Strong mechanical engineering experience within a workshop, heavy engineering, refurbishment or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with pumps, valves or similar mechanical equipment would be advantageous, although not essential.
  • Good knowledge of machining, fabrication and mechanical assembly processes.
  • Experience producing engineering and manufacturing drawings using CAD or similar technical drawing software.
  • The ability to develop practical engineering solutions and see them through from initial concept to completion.
  • Strong project planning and organisational skills, with an understanding of costs, lead times and resource management.
  • A strong understanding of workshop Health & Safety requirements, with experience contributing to RAMS.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce technical reports and communicate effectively with customers.
  • Knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and protective coating systems would be beneficial, although training can be provided.
Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to take a leading role within a specialist workshop environment, combining technical engineering, project ownership and team leadership.

You will have the opportunity to influence workshop performance, improve engineering processes and play a key role in delivering technically challenging refurbishment and repair projects.
