A leading specialist insurer is looking for a Senior Claims Handler to join its Leeds team on an initial one-year fixed-term contract.

This is an opportunity to join a well-established, high-performing team with genuine scope to develop your technical expertise, take ownership of complex claims and build a long-term career within claims.

This role offers:

  • Greater ownership and autonomy over your cases
  • A broader and more varied caseload
  • The opportunity to develop your strategic and decision-making skills
  • A strong work-life balance without compromising on technical challenge
What You'll Be Doing:

You'll take ownership of a diverse and complex caseload, handling claims across multiple lines, including:

  • Employer's Liability (EL)
  • Public Liability (PL)
  • Professional Indemnity / Professional Negligence
  • Personal Injury

  • Inquests and sensitive safeguarding matters

You'll also:

  • Manage claims from initial notification through to settlement
  • Develop and drive your own claims strategy
  • Work closely with policyholders, brokers and solicitors
  • Handle high-value and occasionally high-profile claims
  • Build strong customer relationships and deliver positive outcomes

You'll have genuine autonomy in the role, with responsibility for making decisions and managing your claims strategy rather than simply following processes.

About the Team:
  • Consists of approximately 8 handlers across two teams
  • Has a supportive, collaborative and high-performing culture
  • Offers exposure to a wide variety of complex claims
  • Has a strong track record of internal promotion and development

You'll be joining an environment where people genuinely support and learn from one another, with opportunities to gain exposure beyond day-to-day claims through client interaction, projects and training.

What We're Looking For:

Essential:

  • Experience in claims handling or a legal background as a solicitor/ legal executive
  • Exposure to EL, PL or other liability claims
  • Experience with personal injury or professional negligence
  • Ability to manage complex cases independently
  • Strong communication, judgement and decision-making skills

Highly desirable:

  • Experience within an insurance claims environment
  • Background in care, healthcare or other sensitive claims
  • Exposure to multi-line claims
What's in It for You?:
  • Bonus paid at the end of the fixed-term contract
  • Strong benefits package
  • 25 days' holiday plus Bank Holidays, with the opportunity to buy/sell additional leave
  • Excellent company pension scheme
  • Private medical and dental cover
  • Life assurance
  • Travel insurance
  • Income protection
  • Season ticket loan
  • Fully funded CII qualifications and structured development
  • Clear progression opportunities into senior authority, technical specialist and leadership roles
Ready to Take the Next Step?

If you're looking for a role where you can take real ownership of your work, broaden your claims experience and join a team that genuinely invests in your development, this could be a great next step.
