As a Digital Portfolio Manager, Governance & Risk Assurance, you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of digital investments across the Department for Transport. Working within the Portfolio Management Hub, you will help ensure that projects and programmes are effectively governed and assured, risks are understood and managed, and decision-makers have the information they need to prioritise investment and maximise value.

You will work closely with project teams, senior leaders and stakeholders to coordinate portfolio activities, monitor performance, and support assurance processes that drive successful outcomes. By maintaining oversight of governance, risk and investment performance, you will help identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to informed, evidence-based decision-making using digital portfolio, programme and project management software and tools.

Digital Portfolio Manager - Top Responsibilities

  • Help to create environments that enable teams to deliver. 
  • Support the prioritisation of a group of projects and programmes. 
  • Help teams to follow governance, assurance and digital delivery processes. 
  • Help stakeholders understand the performance of work and any related risks. 
  • Support more senior portfolio managers and leadership in collating digital data and metrics to make evidence-based decisions and improvements. 
  • To ensure governance board cadence is followed and to be accountable for the successful management and running of them.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience: 

  • Experience supporting the governance, assurance or delivery of portfolios, programmes or projects, with an understanding of how effective governance enables successful outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships, influence decisions and work collaboratively across a range of teams and seniority levels.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret performance, financial or portfolio data, using digital software and tools alongside insight to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of portfolio, programme or project management methodologies, governance frameworks and assurance processes.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and tailor messages for different audiences, including senior stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting investment planning, prioritisation, benefits realisation or portfolio reporting.
