If so, Randstad Education wants to hear from you! We are currently recruiting an adaptable and innovative Informal TLG Teacher to join a dedicated Teaching and Learning Group (TLG) within an outstanding specialist school based in South Leeds.
About the School They are an outstanding Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) in South Leeds supporting pupils aged 2 to 19 with a broad spectrum of complex needs. They pride themselves on a person-centred, informal curriculum pathway that focuses heavily on multi-sensory learning, communication, and emotional regulation. Supported by state-of-the-art specialist facilities, low pupil-to-staff ratios, and an experienced multidisciplinary team-including on-site Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists-the school offers a safe, nurturing, and highly inclusive environment where every pupil's progress is celebrated.
About the Role This is a full-time, long-term teaching position leading a class within the Informal Teaching and Learning Group (TLG). You will cater to learners with complex communication profiles, a significant reliance on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, and predominantly pre-verbal communication.
Key duties include:
Designing and delivering a creative, informal, and multi-sensory curriculum tailored to individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
Embedding robust AAC strategies into daily routines to ensure every learner has a voice and can make autonomous choices.
Leading and managing a dedicated team of classroom support assistants to maintain safe, consistent, and structured routines.
Implementing sensory integration routines, movement breaks, and positive behaviour support strategies to assist emotional regulation.
Collaborating closely with Speech and Language Therapists, healthcare professionals, and parents to maintain a holistic approach to learning.
Skills Required
Previous experience planning for and teaching learners with complex communication needs and severe learning difficulties (SLD/PMLD/ASC).
High confidence and practical experience supporting AAC users (e.g., communication books, eye-gaze systems, switches, or speech-generating devices).
Ability to deliver an informal, play-based, or sensory-driven curriculum pathway effectively.
Strong classroom management and leadership skills, combined with a calm, resilient, and compassionate approach.
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification.
Prior experience working with complex communication needs and pre-verbal learners in a UK special school or specialist provision setting.
An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad).
Full eligibility to work in the UK (please note, visa sponsorship is not available for this role).
