About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), enabling them to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential.

This role involves working closely with pupils who may present with a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, learning disabilities, sensory impairments, and challenging behaviour.

The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, and professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting Teaching and Learning

  • Work alongside class teachers to deliver engaging and inclusive learning opportunities.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group interventions tailored to students' individual needs.
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet pupils' EHCP targets and learning objectives.
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum across all subject areas.
  • Assist in the preparation of classroom resources and learning materials.
  • Promote pupil engagement, participation, and achievement during lessons.

Supporting Students with SEND

  • Support pupils with a variety of needs including ASD, SEMH, ADHD, Down Syndrome, moderate learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, and communication needs.
  • Implement personalised support strategies outlined within EHCPs, behaviour plans, and risk assessments.
  • Encourage independence, self-regulation, and positive social interaction.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and anxiety management.
  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviour safely and effectively.
  • Foster pupils' confidence, self-esteem, and resilience.

Behaviour and Emotional Support

  • Build trusting and consistent relationships with pupils.
  • Promote positive behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
  • Support pupils during periods of dysregulation or emotional distress.
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating professional and respectful behaviour.
  • Encourage emotional literacy, communication, and social skills development.

Personal Care and Wellbeing

  • Support pupils with personal care where required, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene needs.
  • Assist with mobility and physical support requirements.
  • Support pupils during break times, lunchtimes, educational visits, and enrichment activities.
  • Promote safeguarding, welfare, dignity, and wellbeing at all times.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Observe and record pupil progress, achievements, and areas for development.
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions, behaviour incidents, and support provided.
  • Provide feedback to teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents as appropriate.
  • Contribute to pupil reviews and annual review processes.

Multi-Agency Working

  • Liaise effectively with teachers, therapists, educational psychologists, social workers, and external professionals.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and pupil progress discussions.
  • Support implementation of therapy programmes, communication strategies, and intervention plans.
