The role: We are seeking Study Skills Lecturers to join our growing team and create a positive impact on the lives of our students by cultivating the skills that shape their academic success. The areas you will be focusing on are: English language and numeracy, academic writing and referencing, organisational and digital skills, research, critical/analytical thinking, presentation skills, and more.

Due to our delivery model, we require flexibility to teach during weekdays, evenings and at weekends. Please note this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design, plan and deliver teaching sessions to help students develop and sharpen their academic skills
  • Design assessments and assess student work, ensuring that all learning outcomes are met
  • Provide meaningful feedback and academic guidance, considering each student's needs
  • Contribute to the design, development, delivery, review, and enhancement of programmes of study within the Faculty and across GBS
  • Participate in internal and external events, such as programme reviews, open days, outreach activities, and partner visits
  • Keep up to date with best practice in learning and teaching and technologies that enhance the learning experience
  • Support and engage in the creation, application, and/or dissemination of new knowledge in your field of study and/or in higher education practice

About You:

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A Master's degree in relevant subject area (PhD desirable)
  • Demonstrable experience of teaching in UK higher education in a relevant discipline
  • Experience of, and a passion for working in widening access environments
  • Experience of supervising student work and providing support and feedback
  • Willingness to lead a specific area of literacy development, such as reading, writing, critical thinking, numeracy, digital skills, research skills (quantitative or qualitative), project and dissertation support or peer-assisted learning
  • A high level of digital literacy and communication skills
  • Attention to detail, accurate reporting and ability to maintain thorough and organised student records.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • DELTA/CELTA qualification
  • Expertise in digital educational resources development, course design and curriculum development
  • A Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during the probationary period and complete within three years) or Fellowship of HEA (or international equivalent)
