Job Introduction

MPS is looking for an experienced Claims Assistant to join their dynamic and member focussed Claims Handling team.

You will work with Claims Managers & Solicitors to provide exceptional service to our members, who are healthcare professionals from all over the world. You will manage your own small caseload, alongside giving hands-on support to Claims Managers and speaking to our members, and internal and external stakeholders daily on the telephone and over email.

This is a progressive opportunity for someone already experienced and/or qualified in a legal or claims handling area to move to the next level and gain valuable experience in a fast moving and impactful area.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored day-to-day support for our members, who can be vulnerable due to stressful circumstances both over the phone and email.
  • Carry out administrative activities on our case handling system, producing accurate and meaningful updates to members and third parties such as external solicitors, members of the public and medico-legal experts.
  • Producing legal correspondence such as court documents and procedural letters at short notice.
  • Reviewing large amounts of documentation, identifying the most urgent sections and escalating to senior colleagues.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Either a law degree or experience working in a claims handling or operations environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to produce consistently high-quality work.
  • Ability to prioritise incoming correspondence, identify urgent matters, and manage workload effectively.
  • Warm and empathetic telephone manner, with the ability to support members who may be distressed.
  • Ability to work independently using your own initiative, while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules would be desirable. As would experience within a Personal Injury, Clinical or Professional Negligence environment.

About The Company

The Medical Protection Society Ltd (MPS) is the world’s leading protection organisation for Doctors, Dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of almost 300,000 members around the world.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, meaning member’s subscriptions are either invested into bettering the organisation, colleagues and products, or kept safe should members require support for complaints or claims arising from professional practice.

Our philosophy is to support safe practice in medicine and dentistry by helping to avert problems in the first place. We also actively campaign for regulatory and legal reforms that benefit members and the wider healthcare professions.

To do this, we need colleagues who are trusted and supported to deliver their best work, whether that be through leadership development, fully funded training courses or peer-to-peer support. We want colleagues to feel empowered to deliver positive change, display ambition to push themselves and be determined when faced with a challenge, whilst ensuring members best interests are at the core.
