Looking to build a long-term career in underwriting? We're recruiting an Assistant Underwriter to join the Renewal Connect team of a well-established specialist insurer in Leeds.

You'll manage a portfolio of commercial renewals, work closely with brokers and develop your technical skills across a varied range of risks, including professional and management risks, charities, and social welfare organisations. It's a busy role with real underwriting responsibility and support from experienced colleagues.

The role

• Underwrite renewals and mid-term adjustments within your authority.
• Review risks, negotiate terms and help retain profitable business.
• Build strong relationships with brokers and provide a responsive service.
• Manage your workflow to meet renewal deadlines and service standards.
• Work with technical underwriting teams on more complex cases.
• Identify opportunities to broaden cover for existing clients.

Skills & experience

• Commercial insurance experience, with at least six months in underwriting or a closely related role.
• Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to handle competing priorities.
• Clear communication and the confidence to build relationships with brokers and colleagues.
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to delivering a responsive service.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and learning new systems.
• Experience with renewals, Acturis, or charity and social welfare risks would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
