The team

Our talented Employment team has a long-standing reputation for providing strategic, pragmatic and solutions-focused advice on a wide range of complex workplace matters. We work with charities, education providers, faith organisations, social enterprises and other purpose-driven organisations, supporting them through sensitive employee relations issues, organisational change programmes, governance and leadership matters, and employment litigation. Our experience spans high-profile disciplinary and grievance cases, restructures and redundancies, discrimination and whistleblowing claims, executive appointments and exits, and strategic workforce projects. Our team is ranked Band 2 in Chambers for our Employment and Third Sector work. Through this work, we help organisations build effective workplaces, manage risk and remain focused on delivering positive outcomes for the communities they serve.

The opportunity

We are looking for a talented and motivated Solicitor to join our Employment team, focusing on work that is working with our Charity clients. From small and local charities, to larger, national institutions, this role will give the successful candidate a broad range of experience working across our Employment and Charity clients. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse client base, providing high-quality legal advice and building trusted relationships within one

You'll work alongside supportive and experienced colleagues, collaborating across teams to deliver excellent client service while continuing to develop your own skills and expertise.

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Support and work on complex and high value legal matters within the Charity sector, ensuring excellent outcomes for clients
  • Provide employment advice and assistance to the firm's clients and prospective clients
  • Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients, understanding their aims and supporting their success
  • Work collaboratively across the team and wider firm to deliver a seamless and high-quality client experience
  • Work alongside our HR Consultancy team
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive and high performing team culture
  • Take an active role in business development, including networking, thought leadership and client engagement
  • Identify opportunities to enhance client service, improve ways of working and support the continued development of the practice
  • Manage matters effectively, ensuring work is delivered to a high standard, in a timely and efficient way, and with appropriate commercial awareness
  • Maintain high professional and regulatory standards at all times
  • Continue your own professional development, staying informed of legal and sector developments
  • Effectively manage an individual Employment Tribunal caseload (with supervision where appropriate)
  • Reviewing and drafting contracts of employment;
  • Advising with regard to disciplinary and grievance issues and procedures;
  • Advising with regard to TUPE issues;
  • Preparing bespoke contracts and advising with regard to implications e.g., secondment and consultancy agreements;
  • Advising in relation to potential discrimination issues, particularly disability, age, religious/belief and sex discrimination;
  • Assisting clients in negotiations with regard to termination and addressing issues e.g., settlement agreements;
  • A general understanding of potential pension implications;
  • Work on matters relating to whistleblowing
  • Assisting on work in employment status, including volunteers and trustees
  • Advising within the Charity Commission regulatory framework
  • To prepare cases for Tribunal hearings, principally on behalf of respondents including carrying out advocacy prior to final hearing where appropriate;
  • Maintain your continuing professional development requirements and take an active interest in furthering your knowledge within the field of law

Requirements

Essential

  • Employment law experience
  • An interest in working with Charity clients
  • Knowledge of Disciplinary and grievance procedures
  • Knowledge of TUPE issues
  • Contract drafting
  • Tribunal Preparation

Desirable

  • Knowledge and drive to grow business development initiatives
  • Experience in working with charities / third sector clients
