The Opportunity
We're working with a growing, data-driven organisation based in Leeds that is looking for a BI Developer.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data but wants to do more than simply build dashboards and reports.
The business is investing in its data capabilities, with ongoing developments across Power BI, Qlik and Microsoft Fabric. You'll have the opportunity to work with modern technologies, contribute to meaningful projects and help shape how data is used across the organisation.
They're not necessarily looking for someone who knows everything. They're looking for someone with strong SQL foundations, a curious and analytical mindset, and the confidence to challenge ideas, ask questions and find solutions.
Whether you're an established BI Developer or a junior developer looking to take the next step, this could be an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills and take real ownership of your work.
The Role
As a BI Developer, you'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to understand their challenges and turn data into meaningful insights that support better decision-making.
This isn't a role where you'll simply be handed requirements and asked to build reports. You'll be encouraged to understand the bigger picture, challenge existing processes and identify opportunities to improve how the business uses its data.
You'll work across a variety of projects, from developing sales performance dashboards and improving KPI reporting to supporting data warehousing initiatives and introducing more effective self-service analytics.
With the business continuing to evolve, no two days will look quite the same.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop and maintain BI dashboards, reports and analytical solutions using tools such as Power BI and Qlik.
Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their reporting requirements and identify the best solutions.
Develop and optimise SQL queries to support reporting, data analysis and business intelligence.
Support data warehousing initiatives and improvements to the organisation's wider data infrastructure.
Translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights that support business decisions.
Identify opportunities to automate reporting processes and improve data quality and efficiency.
Contribute to the development of self-service reporting capabilities across the business.
Support ongoing developments within the Microsoft data ecosystem, including Microsoft Fabric.
Take ownership of problems, investigate root causes and recommend practical solutions.
Collaborate with colleagues across technical and non-technical teams to deliver effective BI solutions.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines technical ability with curiosity, initiative and strong communication skills.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong SQL skills, including experience writing queries and working with relational databases.
- Experience with a Business Intelligence or reporting tool.
- A good understanding of data analysis, reporting and data modelling principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Confidence communicating with stakeholders and understanding business requirements.
- A proactive approach, with the ability to take ownership of tasks and work independently.
- A relevant technical or analytical background, ideally supported by a degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics or a related discipline.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience using Power BI and/or Qlik Sense.
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or modern cloud-based data platforms.
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts and processes.
- Experience developing KPI dashboards and self-service reporting solutions.
- Experience working with stakeholders across different business functions.
- An interest in developing broader technical and commercial knowledge.
What Makes This Opportunity Different?
- You'll have the opportunity to understand real business problems, influence solutions and see the impact of your work rather than simply producing reports.
- With ongoing investment in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric and the wider data environment, you'll gain exposure to evolving technologies while continuing to work with established BI platforms.
- You'll work on a range of projects across different business functions, giving you the opportunity to develop your skills, challenge existing approaches and take ownership of solutions.
- The business actively supports learning and development, offering access to Microsoft training, external courses and opportunities to progress your career.
- You'll be joining a supportive team that values initiative, communication and fresh ideas. They want someone who is enthusiastic about learning and making an impact, not someone who simply knows every technical term.
