JOB TITLE: Clinical Negligence Solicitor
PQE: Up to 8 years (3-8)
LOCATION: Leeds

THE OPPORTUNITY:
The successful applicant will join a well-regarded firm with an established practice in defending clinical negligence claims on behalf of NHS Resolution, NHS Trusts and other defendant clients, including those operating within primary care.
The team has a particularly strong reputation for its work involving birth injuries and patient safety, providing an excellent standard of work and opportunities to build specialist expertise. • Assessing evidence and arranging further investigations where necessary.
• Preparing reports and providing clear, practical advice to clients.
• Conducting witness interviews and drafting witness statements.
• Instructing medical experts and counsel.
• Representing clients at court hearings, case management conferences and applications.
• Negotiating settlements and attending conferences with counsel.
• Preparing cases for trial and participating in alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
You will also contribute to the wider team and firm's objectives by:
• Providing guidance and supervision to junior colleagues, including delegating work and supporting their development.
• Assisting with complex and high-value clinical negligence claims.
• Maintaining effective relationships with clients and colleagues while complying with internal processes.
• Delivering training sessions and presentations for clients.
• Producing articles and other client-focused content.
• Supporting business development activities and helping to generate new opportunities.
• Playing an active role within the wider health business group and firm.
• Undertaking secondments to NHS Resolution or NHS Trusts when required.

THE CANDIDATE:
Applications are invited from solicitors with between 3 and 8 years' PQE who are keen to further their expertise in defendant clinical negligence work. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
• Previous experience at an NHS Resolution panel firm or medical defence organisation (MDO) is advantageous.
• Familiarity with NHS Resolution's EN scheme and maternity-related claims is desirable, alongside a willingness to develop expertise in these areas.
• The ability to manage workloads autonomously while contributing effectively to a collaborative team, both remotely and in the office.
• A strong appreciation of client priorities and service expectations.
• An interest in mentoring and developing junior colleagues.
• The ability to comply with client protocols, working guidelines and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• A practical, forward-thinking approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Excellent organisational, communication and analytical skills, with close attention to detail.
• An understanding of client confidentiality and data security obligations.
• A proven ability to meet billing, time-recording and contribution targets.
