QA Automation Lead / Architect

Location: Leeds – Hybrid (3 days onsite)

Salary: £60,000

We are looking for an experienced QA Automation Lead / Architect to join a growing technology business developing a complex software platform.

This is a hands-on role focused on building scalable automation frameworks, improving testing practices and driving an automation-first approach across development teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain automation frameworks using Playwright and TypeScript.
• Lead improvements to automation testing processes, standards and best practices.
• Work closely with developers to embed testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Drive improvements across API, integration and end-to-end testing.
• Explore opportunities to integrate AI into testing processes to improve efficiency, test coverage and automation.
• Mentor engineers and support the adoption of automation-first practices.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Playwright and TypeScript.
• Proven experience designing and building test automation frameworks from scratch.
• Previous experience leading automation initiatives or influencing testing strategy.
• Experience with API testing, CI/CD and modern software development practices.
• Ability to work closely with engineering teams and drive technical improvements.

Desirable:

• Experience with AI-assisted testing tools.
• Background in complex SaaS or enterprise software environments.
