Stride Resource Management

Take the lead of an established Commercial Insurance division, with responsibility for its performance, growth strategy and the development of its people. This Commercial Director opportunity in Leeds offers the chance to shape the future of a respected independent insurance broker, building a high-performing team while maintaining the client relationships and service standards that underpin the business.

You'll have genuine influence over the direction of the division, working closely with senior leadership to drive sustainable growth, improve performance and develop the next generation of leaders. The business offers a flexible approach to hybrid working, with the expectation that you'll spend time in the office and with your team as the role requires.

The opportunity

This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for the overall performance, culture and strategic direction of the Commercial Insurance division.

You'll be taking ownership of an established operation, with the freedom to shape how the team develops and delivers results.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Divisional leadership: Take responsibility for the performance of the Commercial Insurance division, setting clear objectives and creating a culture of accountability.
  • Commercial growth: Develop and deliver a strategy that drives sustainable revenue growth, strengthens client relationships and identifies new business opportunities.
  • People development: Lead, coach and develop an established team, creating an environment where individuals are supported, challenged and encouraged to progress.
  • Future leadership: Identify and develop emerging talent, building a strong succession pipeline and reducing reliance on individual senior performers.
  • Client retention: Maintain a strong focus on client service, retention and long-term relationships, ensuring the division continues to deliver high standards.
  • Operational performance: Review processes, team structure and ways of working to improve efficiency, collaboration and overall commercial performance.

The division handles a broad range of commercial insurance risks, from smaller businesses through to larger and more complex corporate clients. You'll need to understand the demands of a varied portfolio while maintaining a clear focus on the wider commercial performance of the business.

Who would suit it?

This opportunity would suit an established Commercial Director or senior insurance broking leader who enjoys developing people as much as delivering commercial results.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Significant leadership experience within commercial insurance broking, with responsibility for team performance, client relationships and business growth.
  • A strong understanding of commercial insurance, from SME business through to larger and more complex risks.
  • A proven ability to lead and develop teams, improve performance and create a positive, accountable working environment.
  • The commercial judgement to balance new business growth, client retention, profitability and long-term business development.
  • Experience developing managers and future leaders, with the ability to delegate effectively and build a sustainable leadership structure.
  • The credibility to work closely with senior stakeholders, influence business strategy and make decisions that benefit the wider organisation.

This isn't simply a role for someone who can generate substantial new business personally. The emphasis is on building a successful division, developing its people and creating the conditions for sustainable growth.

You'll need to be comfortable taking ownership, making decisions and holding people accountable, while remaining approachable and supportive as a leader.

The package

  • Salary: Competitive package, dependent on experience.
  • Location: Leeds
  • Hybrid working: Flexible arrangements, with office attendance determined by the needs of the division and leadership responsibilities.
