Commercial Vehicle Maintenance Technician (HGV)

Location: Leeds City Council, Torre Road Depot, 225a York Road, Leeds, LS9 7QQ

Contract: Full-Time Temporary (2 - 3 Months)

Pay Rate: £22.14 per hour PAYE

Leeds City Council is looking for four experienced HGV Technicians to join its Fleet Services team on a temporary basis for the next 2-3 months. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified commercial vehicle technicians to work on a diverse fleet of heavy goods and specialist municipal vehicles while supporting essential public services across Leeds.

Leeds City Council Fleet Services is responsible for maintaining the Council's vehicle fleet and ensuring compliance with Operator Licence requirements. We are seeking four skilled and qualified HGV Vehicle Technicians to join our busy workshop team.

You will be responsible for inspecting, servicing, repairing and maintaining a wide range of commercial, heavy goods and specialist municipal vehicles, ensuring all work is completed to statutory requirements, manufacturer standards and Council policies.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Inspect, service, maintain and repair a wide range of HGVs, commercial and specialist municipal vehicles.
• Accurately diagnose faults on vehicles and associated specialist equipment.
• Carry out repairs efficiently and in accordance with specified repair procedures and policies.
• Identify and report defects discovered during inspections, servicing and repairs, including any preventative maintenance requirements.
• Use specialist diagnostic equipment, workshop tools and machinery safely and effectively.
• Complete all job cards, repair documentation and electronic records accurately using computer systems.
• Work safely at all times, adhering to health and safety procedures and regulations.
• Undertake on-site repair and maintenance work when required.
• Comply with all requirements relating to the operation and use of GPS-equipped mobile workshop vehicles.
• Complete repairs and servicing within agreed scheduled times, using ICME and Autodata standards as performance benchmarks.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Experience carrying out servicing, repairs and maintenance on commercial vehicles.
• A minimum of 3 years' continuous training through an approved apprenticeship or recognised externally validated training programme.
• At least 2 years' continuous experience within a commercial vehicle repair and service environment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
• Excellent manual dexterity and practical workshop skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively using both written and verbal technical language.
• Good numerical skills for measurements, adjustments and tool settings.
• A proactive approach to health and safety and quality standards.
• Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of City & Guilds 4101 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs).
• Full Valid UK Driving Licence
