Position Statement

The Junior Buyer is responsible for making sure the Sales team can quote quickly, accurately and competitively.

The role manages all pricing requests and tenders from Sales, secures the best pricing from suppliers and spots opportunities to use stocked products or reuse previous quotations, so customers get a fast response and Orkka protects its margin.

Performance Objectives

Manage all quotations and tenders promptly and accurately.

Negotiate the best pricing on special (non-stocked) items.

Advise Sales on similar previous quotations to ensure maximum efficiency.

Advise Sales on suitable stocked products to improve stock turns.

Key Performance Indicators

Quotation response times.

Zero red quotes on dashboards.

Responsibilities / Duties

Manage all quotations on a daily basis and ensure the best pricing is achieved.

Manage tenders as required, ensuring the best pricing and maximum efficiencies are achieved.

Review all quotations daily to identify where a stocked product could be used.

Review all quotations daily to identify where an equivalent quotation has already been processed, to ensure a quick turnaround.

Negotiate pricing daily on all specials that appear on the reorder dashboard, to maximise gross profit (GP).

Skills and Experience

Experience in purchasing, buying, procurement or a commercial support role is desirable, although the right attitude and potential matter more than length of experience.

Confidence negotiating with suppliers, with the ability to hold a position and secure the best price.

Strong numeracy and attention to detail, with an understanding of margin and gross profit.

Good organisation and the ability to manage a high volume of quotations against tight turnaround times.

Clear, timely communication with Sales colleagues and suppliers by phone and email.

Confidence using Microsoft Excel and purchasing or ERP systems. Knowledge of packaging products would be advantageous.
