We’re working with a successful and growing distribution business based in Leeds that is looking to appoint an experienced Financial Accountant to support financial reporting, financial controls and the day-to-day finance operations of the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and commercially aware finance professional to play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring strong financial controls and providing reliable financial information to support business performance and growth.
Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial reports and support the production of management accounts.
• Manage month-end and year-end processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Maintain balance sheet reconciliations, including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and intercompany balances where applicable.
• Oversee bank reconciliations, general ledger postings and the integrity of financial records.
• Manage VAT returns and ensure compliance with relevant financial and statutory reporting requirements.
• Support the preparation of annual accounts and liaise with external auditors.
• Monitor stock and inventory accounting, ensuring accurate valuation and reconciliation of stock balances.
• Reconcile supplier and customer accounts, investigating discrepancies and resolving outstanding issues.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit control processes where required.
• Assist with cash flow reporting, working capital management and monitoring debtor and creditor balances.
• Review financial processes and controls, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Work closely with operational and commercial teams to provide financial information and investigate variances.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis as required.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards and relevant financial regulations.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of finance systems, processes and reporting procedures.

The Ideal Candidate

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
• Experience in a financial accounting role, ideally within a distribution, wholesale, logistics or stock-based business
