Senior DevOps Engineer | 3 Days a week in Leeds | Up to £65,000

The Senior DevOps Engineer role supports our client’s growing cloud and platform function within the energy and utilities sector by providing senior-level technical leadership across infrastructure, DevOps engineering, and cross-team collaboration. This position offers the opportunity to join a large, technology-driven organisation where you can shape DevOps standards, improve delivery reliability, and influence cloud strategies across multiple teams.

Role Overview

The position is roughly 60% hands-on and 40% stakeholder-facing, combining engineering delivery with mentoring, collaboration, and input into technical design and governance. You will work closely with development, data, architecture, and cybersecurity teams to improve cloud operations, support infrastructure as code delivery, and help define best practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver hands-on DevOps and cloud engineering across a primarily Azure-based environment
• Complete and improve remaining Terraform modules and infrastructure components
• Support deployment improvement initiatives, including more reliable release processes
• Collaborate with the data team on cloud ownership and ways of working across AWS environments
• Provide senior guidance to existing DevOps engineers through mentoring and quality oversight
• Review technical solutions and contribute to architecture and low-level design discussions
• Help ensure alignment with internal security standards and compliance requirements
• Work with teams across Dev, Data, Infrastructure, and Cybersecurity to improve platform processes and guardrails
• Identify opportunities for improvement and bring fresh ideas into the DevOps function

Essential Skills & Experience

• AWS and Azure
• Terraform
• CI/CD
• Strong stakeholder engagement experience
• Senior level judgement – able to mentor, challenge approaches, and lead initiatives

Desirable Skills

• Experience with CloudFormation
• Experience with GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps
• Exposure to SonarQube and Renovate
• Experience working in regulated or security-conscious environments
• Understanding of cloud monitoring and security tooling
• Exposure to app services, microservices environments, or containerisation discussions
