IBM i / AS400 Support Engineer – Fully Remote – £40k–£45k

Are you an IBM i / AS400 Support Engineer, iSeries Administrator or IBM Power Systems Engineer looking to take the next step in your career?

We are recruiting for a Junior IBM i Infrastructure Consultant to join an established IT Managed Services Provider (MSP), supporting business-critical IBM i, AS400 and IBM Power Systems environments.

This fully remote opportunity is ideal for someone with hands-on IBM i administration or technical support experience who wants to develop specialist expertise in MIMIX, high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), IBM Power Systems and VIOS virtualisation.

Working alongside experienced IBM i consultants, you'll gain exposure to multiple customer environments, enterprise infrastructure technologies and technical projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 2nd and 3rd line technical support for IBM i, AS400 and iSeries systems.
• Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot IBM Power Systems environments.
• Perform IBM i system administration, PTF updates, patching and operating system upgrades.
• Assist with MIMIX high availability, replication and disaster recovery solutions.
• Support IBM PowerVM, VIOS and virtualised IBM Power infrastructure.
• Assist with backup, recovery, BRMS and system resilience activities.
• Investigate system performance, capacity, security and infrastructure issues.
• Support infrastructure migrations, upgrades and technical improvement projects.
• Provide technical support and guidance to customers within a Managed Services environment.
• Maintain technical documentation, system reports and support procedures.

Essential Skills & Experience

We are looking for candidates with practical experience in IBM i infrastructure support or administration.

• Experience supporting IBM i / AS400 / iSeries environments.
• Knowledge of IBM Power Systems hardware and infrastructure.
• Experience with IBM i system administration, troubleshooting or technical support.
• Understanding of operating system maintenance, system monitoring and backup procedures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn new technologies.

Desirable Technical Skills

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous, although training and development opportunities are available:

• MIMIX high availability and disaster recovery.
• IBM PowerHA or other HA/DR technologies.
• IBM VIOS, PowerVM, HMC and LPAR management.
• IBM Storage Systems.
• BRMS backup and recovery.
• IBM i PTF management and OS upgrades.
• CL programming, SQL or automation.
• Managed Services Provider (MSP) experience.

Previous MIMIX experience is not essential for this Junior position. We welcome applications from IBM i Support Engineers, AS400 Administrators and infrastructure professionals looking to expand their technical capabilities.
