ABOUT BUXTON COATES

Buxton Coates Solicitors is a respected and growing legal firm, recognised for delivering expert legal advice with integrity, clarity and a personal approach.

As our firm continues to develop, we are looking to recruit an experienced and commercially minded Corporate Solicitor to join our team.

This is an opportunity for a capable solicitor who is confident managing an established workload, taking responsibility for their own matters and delivering high-quality legal work efficiently.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, organised and able to make an immediate contribution to the department, ensuring that existing client matters are progressed effectively and completed to a high standard.

OUR VISION

To be the most trusted and forward-thinking legal partner in UK dentistry. We aim to combine professional excellence with a human touch, empowering clients with accessible legal guidance.

Through continuous investment in our people, systems and innovation, we are building a modern legal business where every team member takes ownership, develops professionally and contributes to the firm's continued success.

ROLE PURPOSE

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and progressing an existing portfolio of corporate legal matters, alongside taking on new instructions as required.

The role requires a solicitor who can demonstrate the ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise competing demands, work efficiently and see matters through to completion with minimal supervision.

You will be expected to take ownership of client matters from initial instruction through to completion, providing clear and commercially focused advice, preparing and reviewing legal documentation, managing transactions and ensuring deadlines and client expectations are met.

This is a hands-on fee-earning role. The successful candidate must be comfortable carrying an existing workload, managing their own time and ensuring that work is completed rather than simply progressed or delegated.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Legal Services

  • Managing a varied caseload of corporate and commercial matters, including existing files within the department.
  • Advising clients on a range of corporate matters, including business sales and acquisitions, share sales and purchases, asset sales and purchases, company restructures and corporate reorganisations.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating share purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, shareholder agreements, articles of association, investment agreements and other corporate documentation.
  • Advising on company structures, corporate governance and directors' duties.
  • Managing corporate transactions from initial instruction through to negotiation, completion and post-completion requirements.
  • Identifying legal and commercial risks and providing practical solutions to clients.
  • Liaising with accountants, financial advisers, other solicitors and relevant third parties to ensure transactions are completed efficiently.

Caseload & Workload Management

  • Managing an existing caseload, ensuring matters are progressed efficiently and completed within agreed timescales.
  • Taking ownership of files, prioritising competing demands and meeting deadlines.
  • Proactively chasing outstanding information, resolving issues and keeping matters moving.
  • Maintaining accurate file records and escalating complex issues where appropriate.

Client Management & Communication

  • Managing client relationships and providing clear, practical and commercially focused advice.
  • Keeping clients informed, responding promptly to enquiries and managing expectations.
  • Attending client meetings as required.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Managing files in accordance with firm procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Recording time accurately and ensuring work is billed appropriately.
  • Maintaining accurate electronic files and complying with AML, risk management and professional conduct requirements.

Teamwork & Professional Development

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and supporting junior team members where appropriate.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legal developments.
  • Contributing positively to the wider team and the continued growth of the firm.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

We are looking for a solicitor who can demonstrate:

  • Proven corporate law experience and the ability to manage a varied caseload.
  • Strong drafting and technical legal skills.
  • The ability to manage an existing workload independently, from instruction through to completion.
  • Excellent organisational skills, commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • Confidence in dealing directly with clients and other professionals.
  • The ability to work efficiently under pressure without requiring constant supervision.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Above all, we are looking for a capable, dependable and delivery-focused solicitor who can take ownership of an existing workload and manage matters through to completion.

The successful candidate will be proactive, commercially minded and able to work independently, ensuring that client matters are progressed efficiently, deadlines are met and work is completed to a consistently high standard.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • The opportunity to join a growing and ambitious legal firm.
  • An established workload and the opportunity to take ownership of corporate matters.
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Exposure to a diverse client base, particularly within the UK dental sector.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package, dependent on experience.
