Design Manager – Powering the Future of Sustainable Freight

Are you ready to lead the charge in building the UK’s first multi-fuel, low-carbon fuelling network for commercial vehicles?

An ambitious and well-funded clean energy infrastructure company – fresh off a £100m funding round – is looking for a Design Manager with an electrical design background to join its mission to decarbonise UK road freight. From their base in Greater Leeds area, you’ll sit at the centre of innovation, designing the blueprint for a cleaner, greener logistics future.

Why You’ll Want to Join:

The team is building a nationwide network of refuelling and recharging stations serving electricity, HVO, renewable natural gas, and hydrogen to vans and HGVs. This is your chance to shape projects that deliver over 90% CO₂e savings, improve air quality in UK cities, and help the country meet its Net Zero goals. The company promotes diversity, c.50% of the team are women (not many infrastructure companies can say the same!) and they have 8 nationalities (and counting!) in a team of less than 30. On top of the base salary, everyone is rewarded with a performance bonus, 5% pension, extended maternity/paternity leave, private medical, dental and life insurance. Looking after everyone who joins the company's mission is a priority of the senior leadership team!

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead the end-to-end design process across RIBA stages 1–4, with hands-on input during early-stage electrical design

  • Manage and mentor a growing in-house team of civil, CAD, and architectural designers

  • Oversee design partnerships spanning M&E, architecture, structural engineering, ecology, and planning

  • Optimise site layouts, drainage, buildings, and infrastructure to balance quality, cost, and future-readiness

  • Collaborate with site sourcing, planning, construction, and technology teams to bring new sites to life

  • Ensure "right-first-time" design outputs, ready for a smooth build phase

What You’ll Bring:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar, with solid LV/HV design experience

  • Proven track record delivering complex design projects and managing engineering teams

  • Versatility across disciplines like civil infrastructure, architecture, planning, or highways is a plus

  • Proficiency in tools like SketchUp, Revit, and Civil 3D

  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with a curious and collaborative mindset

You'll Thrive If You:

  • Love solving real-world infrastructure challenges

  • Enjoy a fast-paced environment where innovation is encouraged

  • Want your work to make a tangible impact on climate change and air quality

Be part of something bigger. Join a team that’s reshaping the UK’s freight landscape, one future-ready site at a time.
