Permanent, full-time position, 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.


Mears provides temporary accommodation to asylum seekers while their claims are being assessed across three regions: Northeast, Yorkshire and Humber, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. As of May 2021, Mears supported over 19,000 service users. We collaborate with central and local government, registered providers, tenants, landlords, and investors to address homelessness, increase social and affordable housing, and develop specialist housing for individuals with care needs.


About the Role:


Due to contract expansion, we are seeking a Multi Skilled Operative at our Wakefield branch. Your main duties will include repairs and refurbishment activities in occupied accommodation, ensuring excellent customer service and adherence to safety, quality, and cost standards. Responsibilities include performing general repairs such as changing doors, taps, baths, fixing radiators, and conducting property inspections.


Role Criteria:



  • NVQ Level 2 in a core trade

  • Experience and knowledge in two other trades

  • Plastering, joinery, and plumbing experience is advantageous

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel


Note: All roles require the entitlement to work in the UK. Mears does not offer visa sponsorship.


Applicants must pass relevant DBS/Security checks before or upon employment commencement. This includes DBS & BPSS checks, Security Clearance, and providing identification such as proof of address, references, a valid passport, and proof of UK residence for the last five years.


To operate a Mears vehicle, candidates must be over 21, have held a driving license for more than three months, and have fewer than nine points on their license.
