Farnell

Farnell, an Avnet company, is a global high-service distributor of technology products, services and solutions for electronic system design, maintenance and repair.

Our element14 community team in Leeds is currently recruiting for a Technical Programs Specialist to plan, coordinate, and promote technical initiatives and programs within our online electronics community.  This hybrid working role supporting members globally within the electronics industry.

We proudly host a thriving global network of electronic design engineers, makers, and technology gurus. Our community website enables members to connect, cooperate, share knowledge, and explore the latest innovations in electronics and emerging technologies.

About the Role

As a Technical Programs Specialist, you’ll play a key role in strengthening our community by nurturing relationships and creating engaging, accessible content on complex topics—ranging from semiconductors, sensors, and wireless communication protocols to IoT, AI, Industry 4.0, and automation.

You’ll help design product road tests, write in-depth reviews, and create content such as eBooks and technical articles that inform, inspire, and unite members.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong communication and writing skills who is passionate about technology and online community engagement. Whether you’re a design engineer, technician, educator, or someone with a background in electronics and a love for research and writing, we’d love to hear from you.

This is not just a marketing role—you will need to know about electronics to succeed in this position.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Excellent communication and team working skills; able to work with cross-functional teams, including product manufacturers, marketing managers, account managers, subject matter experts, and creative teams.

  • Passion for continuous improvement and creativity, with the ability to propose and develop fresh ideas for community programs and content.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Experience interpreting technical documentation and determining the tools, components, and setup required for product testing.

  • Foundational knowledge of semiconductors and electronic components, ideally with the ability to develop community-based challenges or competitions.

  • Capable of creating detailed outlines for technical content.

  • Strong attention to detail in both technical accuracy and editorial quality.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Proofreading and refining technical product quizzes to ensure clarity and accuracy.

  • Preparing manuscripts for online publication—including editing for grammar and clarity, formatting content, and providing layout guidance for web and marketing teams.

  • Writing technical copy using documentation, application notes, and product guides.

  • Creating engaging, technically accurate articles that communicate complex concepts in an accessible, conversational style.

What We Offer

  • A collaborative, inclusive team environment focused on mutual goals.

  • Supportive leadership with an open-door approach.

  • Tools and opportunities to grow your career in a technical and creative space.

  • Competitive salary and benefits, including:

    • Pension scheme

    • Health Cash Plan

    • 25 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays) with the option to buy additional days

    • Flexible hybrid working

    • Free onsite parking and gym facilities

    • Cycle to Work scheme

    • Recognition and reward programs

Ready to bring technology together with our online community?

If you’re excited about electronics, love writing and engaging with others, and want to help shape an all-encompassing and innovative tech space—we’d love to hear from you.
