Business Modelling Applications

The Challenge Addressed

The UK’s critical national infrastructure is facing once in a generation challenges driven by climate change. Massive investment is being put forward to address these challenges. If done in the right way this investment and change can play a huge role in unlocking a sustainable future. The challenges faced are diverse and multifaceted. In this role you will join a BMA team helping UK water utilities in their ambitious goal to rebalance aging infrastructure with climate resilience, ensuring clean water for future generations while balancing customer affordability. For example, generating renewable energy from sewage sludge or using waste heat from sewer networks. In this role you will be part of a team that will help guide the largest-ever investment in our critical national infrastructure in a generation.

Company Overview

Business Modelling Applications (BMA) is a leading UK-based technology company. Our Decision Intelligence software platform, Decisio, helps infrastructure clients to make more holistic, rapid, and connected decisions. Founded in 2013, our vision is to develop technology that leverages advances in Advanced Analytics and Data Science, with the increasingly accessible processing power enabled through the cloud.

Decisio is an Azure-native, AI-assisted decision intelligence and analytics platform focused on supporting the delivery of infrastructure transformation at pace. From long-term strategic planning through to operational planning and project delivery, the platform empowers clients to make more informed, holistic, and connected decisions. We specialise in assisting businesses in transitioning to resilient, low-carbon models, and we are seeking innovative individuals to contribute to our mission.

Wastewater and Bioresources Solution Developer

As a Wastewater and Bioresources Solution Developer at BMA, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our Decisio Cloud for Water (C4W) platform. Your primary focus will be on leveraging your expertise in modelling of wastewater and bioresources processes, such as anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge to produce renewable energy. You will use your data science skills, to optimise the performance, resilience, and sustainability of wastewater and bioresource systems for our clients. BMA is looking for someone to join the company as a consultant who has a background in process engineering, environmental science/engineering, applied mathematics or computer science or related discipline. It would also be advantageous if you have experience and an interest in the wastewater and bioresource treatment industries.

The Role

·       The role will require you to be part of a growing company that has a wide-ranging customer base spread across the water & energy utility sectors.

·       You will be expected to learn the core technologies used by BMA and become familiar with the BMA proprietary solution delivery platform, Decisio Cloud for Water (C4W), to create detailed digital representations of clients' connected systems of assets in the water, wastewater and organic waste management sectors.

·       The core skills expected include data management, database development, mathematical modelling and logic development and familiarity with coding and optimisation principles.

·       Conduct sprint design sessions, model prototyping, integration with the current architecture, maintain version control and testing to ensure the requirements have been met.

Personal Characteristics

·       A passion for using technology and quantitative analysis to drive real world benefits.

·       Self-motivating and self-learning.

·       Enjoy a flexible and varied workload.

·       Pragmatic and goal orientated.

Qualifications and skills

·       Bachelor's degree or higher in Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Data or Computer Science, Applied mathematics, Statistical and Decision Sciences or a related field.

·       Proficiency in utilizing advanced analytics and data science techniques for decision-making purposes, including but not limited to statistical analysis, predictive modelling, and optimisation algorithms.

·       Familiarity with Microsoft Excel is essential, and knowledge of other tools and techniques such as MS SQL Server, Python, R, Microsoft Power BI, Linear programming and other optimisation techniques and technologies will be a further advantage.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to other stakeholders and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

·       Proven track record of driving innovation, delivering results, and adapting to dynamic and fast-paced environments.
