The Role

We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced underwriter to join our Fortune 500 specialty insurance client. This role is critical to driving forward the renewals across their care, construction and professional indemnity books of business and stimulating further growth through building and developing relations with brokers nationally.

This is a role for someone looking to forward their career within underwriting, who has excellent relationship building skills and will be involved with the underwriting of these areas of business within the renewal team.

What we are looking for in you?

  • Have a proven track record in large case Underwriting, with experience in Broker/Commercial Insurance.
  • Able to demonstrate effective management of corporate clients and proposition development
  • Be self-starting and success-oriented individuals and have a desire to build a market leading business.
  • Be a creditable and engaging representative of Markel.
  • Have effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills
  • Collaborative nature, capable of working in sync with the Broker Channel Exec and leadership group.

What you will be doing?

The large client underwiting lead will enhance the experience of large clinets and brokers by focusing on retention and developing strategies to renew high-value accounts with the target accounts being those valued at over £100,000. You will:

  • Work closely with the Head of Renewals, Distribution team and Senior Underwriters to agree strategies to effectively renew large clients.
  • Ensure that full proposition is utilised and communicated to brokers and clients to maximise our niche expertise and place in the market.
  • Work in tandem with the Broker Distribution Senior Leadership Team to ensure alignment and collaboration and agree key brokers to target and visit.
  • Oversight of all large cases, agreeing renewal strategy with key stakeholders, and being the face of Markel to the customer.
  • Direct ownership of agreed key cases
  • Market facing role to demonstrate the breadth of our appetite and offering.
  • Ownership of renewal KPIs for large cases
  • Identify new opportunities and bring these to life - cross selling where appropriate.
  • Develop a business plan outlining your focus areas and identified opportunities
