About:
We’re looking for an experienced clinician with teaching, curriculum or research expertise to join our brilliant DWP Clinical Policy team.
Job description
The successful candidate will lead the curriculum development, curriculum mapping and curriculum maintenance for our 5500 health care professionals who undertake 2 million disability assessments per year. They will work closely with the clinical education lead to ensure that new and emerging relevant national guidance is recognised and prioritised for inclusion in the curriculum.
They will ensure learning from significant events, complaints and appeals is considered so that healthcare professionals and disability benefit decision makers are up to date and working in line with best practice.
You will:
- Oversee the curriculum for the core training and guidance material for DWP alongside the Clinical Education Lead, proving autonomous leadership will full responsibility for the clinical curriculum.
- Provide assurance to the Chief Medical Advisor that the curriculum for 5500 health care professionals who undertake 2 million health assessments per year is up to date, in line with national standards and complete.
- Map the curriculum to provide a nationally recognised curriculum blueprint for work and health and disability health assessments.
- Have autonomy to make decisions on curriculum content addition and remove content that is no longer required.
- Be able to quickly identify when things are going wrong and put measurable steps in place to put them right.
- Draft and deliver (including in-person) high quality advice for the Clinical Education Lead and senior officials on guidance, research and education.
Person specification:
Essential:
- 5 years of post graduate experience and up to date registration with NMC, GMC or HCPC with no conditions on registration unless they relate solely to a disability. Medical applicants must have a licence to practise.
- High level of clinical confidence, including a broad range of clinical experience, with experience of working in the NHS.
- Academic experience and experience of writing or developing a clinical curriculum
- Knowledge of evidence-based medicine and critical appraisal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex material into simple explanations.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to adapt, influence and solve problems at pace.
Desirable:
- Masters in education or alternative post-graduation qualification in education
- Higher education authority recognition e.g.AFHEA or above
