Lead Test Engineer
Location: Leeds, UK (flexible working across multiple UK sites or remote)
Salary: £67,000 – £76,000 per annum
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Overview
Our client is seeking a Lead Test Engineer to join a dynamic digital consultancy. This position involves leading testing efforts across multidisciplinary teams, designing and implementing robust quality assurance strategies, and coaching both clients and internal teams on best practices. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, user-centred digital solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product and design teams to define testing parameters and strategies
- Design, implement, and manage quality assurance plans and performance tests
- Produce detailed test reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Lead the design and management of deployment pipelines, resolving technical issues proactively
- Prioritise and realign workload based on evolving operational demands and project complexities
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to stakeholders at all levels
- Contribute to team development through recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring
- Represent the organisation externally via blogs, workshops, and speaking engagements
Candidate Requirements
Essential Experience and Skills:
- Proven experience leading delivery teams in QA/test engineering roles
- Strong background in functional and non-functional automation testing
- Full lifecycle testing expertise, including web and mobile app environments
- Proficient in cross-browser, accessibility, and usability testing
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Selenium, Specflow, Cucumber, Gherkin Syntax, JMeter, and K6
- Knowledge of containerisation (Docker or Kubernetes)
- Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful API testing
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and TDD practices
- Experience in building scalable testing frameworks for native and web platforms
- Infrastructure as Code skills (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM)
- Expertise with AWS or Azure environments and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, AWS CodeBuild, Azure DevOps)
- Experience with GOV/NHS projects is highly desirable
