We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Managing Director to lead our Supply business.

Purpose of the Job

The primary purpose of this role is to establish, maintain project management standards, processes, and best practices, ensuring that projects are executed efficiently. The Senior PMO will ensure optimal utilisation of resources and help the business achieve its strategic objectives through effective portfolio management, comprehensive reporting, and robust stakeholder engagement.

Key Accountabilities

  • Own the development, implementation, and maintenance of project management standards, processes, and best practices to ensure consistent and efficient project execution.
  • Be accountable for overseeing the management of the project portfolio, ensuring alignment with business objectives and strategic goals.
  • Take ownership of developing and maintaining comprehensive reporting mechanisms to track project progress, risks, and issues, providing regular updates to senior management and stakeholders using tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Jira, and PowerPoint.
  • Centralise project data collection and visibility for stakeholders, streamlining communication and project tracking to enhance efficiency.
  • Develop and track KPIs and metrics to provide insights for proactive decision-making and align projects with strategic goals.
  • Develop standard project selection criteria to prioritise projects in the pipeline based on strategic goals, resource availability, and potential ROI.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring their needs and expectations are met, and facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams.
  • Implement and maintain project governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Identify, assess, and manage portfolio risks and dependencies, developing mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery across the portfolio.
  • Plan and allocate resources effectively to reduce costs and ensure timely project completion, boosting profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure optimal utilisation of resources across projects to maximise efficiency and effectiveness. Be accountable for tracking resource usage, identifying instances of over or underutilisation, and taking necessary steps to mitigate these to ensure optimal workforce utilisation, thus maximising productivity.
  • Forecast resource demand for pipeline projects in the opportunity or approval stage and assess available resources and their attributes. Identify resource gaps and develop comprehensive resource plans to strategically allocate resources according to demand and meet project objectives and deadlines effectively.
  • Ensure the efficient utilisation of human, equipment, financial, and other resources to meet organisational objectives.
  • Ensure seamless workflow management throughout the project lifecycle by establishing standardised workflows for resource requisition, allocation, etc., and implementing templates, tools, and technologies to streamline project execution. Evaluate and recommend improvements to optimise operations for enhanced efficiency.

Knowledge, Skills And Experience

  • Extensive experience in a PMO role, within a transformation or change environment.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing a portfolio of projects, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.
  • Extensive experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining project management standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate project and portfolio risks.
  • Strong background in resource planning, allocation, and optimization to ensure efficient utilisation.
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining project governance frameworks and ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Proven ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives within the PMO function, enhancing processes and methodologies.
  • In-depth understanding of project management methodologies, standards, and best practices (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile).
  • Expertise in managing a portfolio of projects, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.
  • Proficient in using reporting tools such as Power BI, Jira, and PowerPoint for tracking and presenting portfolio performance, dependencies, progress, risks, and issues.
  • Ability to analyse project data and metrics to provide insights for decision-making.
  • Excellent writing/communication/ stakeholder management skills
  • Project management – recognised methodology, preferably PRINCE2 and/or MSP Practitioner.
  • Chartered membership of a recognised professional body preferred , e.g. APM, BCS, IET
