About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and skilled EHC Assessment & Review Officer to join our SEND service. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and make a real difference to their outcomes.
You will play a key role in managing statutory processes, working collaboratively with families, schools, and multi-agency partners to ensure high-quality Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans are delivered within statutory timescales.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Casework Officers in managing a caseload of children and young people with SEN
- Coordinate child-centred statutory assessments and annual reviews
- Communicate effectively with families, ensuring they understand the process and feel supported
- Analyse professional reports and contribute to decision-making on complex cases
- Draft clear, high-quality EHC documentation in line with statutory requirements
- Liaise with education, health, and care professionals to monitor provision and progress
- Attend and chair review meetings where required
- Provide advice on placements, provision, funding, and SEND-related processes (including Tribunal matters)
- Ensure all work complies with statutory deadlines and Local Authority responsibilities
About You
We’re seeking someone who is:
- Knowledgeable about SEND legislation, particularly the SEND Code of Practice (2015), Children and Families Act (2014), and SEND Regulations
- Skilled in analysing complex information and presenting it clearly
- Confident in communicating with families and professionals, including handling sensitive situations
- Able to work independently, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines
- Experienced in mediation, negotiation, and partnership working
- Committed to improving outcomes for children and young people
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification (e.g., Social Work, Teaching, Youth Work, Education Welfare), or demonstrable experience in a similar role
- Experience working within SEN or a related field
- Enhanced DBS check (without barred list) required
