Role title: Construction Associate/Senior Associate (Contentious and Non-Contentious)
Location: Leeds
Salary: £65,000 to £90,000 + bonus and benefits
Experience: 4 to 7 PQE
The Opportunity Our client is looking to hire a construction lawyer into its Leeds team and is open to candidates from either a contentious or non-contentious background.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys high-quality construction and engineering work, wants strong client exposure, and is looking to build a long-term platform within a supportive and collaborative team.
You will work closely with colleagues across real estate, projects and disputes, advising a wide range of clients on the legal and commercial aspects of construction and engineering matters.
What You’ll Be Doing Depending on your background, the role is likely to include a mix of the following:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction and engineering documentation, including standard form contracts (for example JCT and NEC)
- Advising on procurement routes, risk allocation and contract strategy
- Supporting clients through project lifecycles, including variations, extensions of time, payment provisions and termination
- Advising on consultant appointments and collateral warranties
- Advising on construction and engineering disputes, including claims involving defects, delay, disruption and payment issues
- Supporting on adjudications, mediations, arbitrations and litigation
- Working closely with clients, experts and counsel to progress matters efficiently
- Supporting knowledge sharing and mentoring more junior team members, and taking ownership of workstreams as you progress
What We’re Looking For
- 4 to 7 PQE with experience in construction law within private practice
- Background in either non-contentious construction, contentious construction, or a blend of both
- Strong drafting skills and a practical, commercial approach to risk and dispute resolution
- Comfortable managing matters with appropriate supervision and delivering a high standard of client service
- Confident communication style and a client-focused approach
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment
- Experience supervising others and taking ownership of workstreams is preferred
