Legal Cashier

Leeds City Centre
12-month fixed term contract
Up to £37,000 depending on experience
Hybrid working
9.30am – 5.30pm, with some flexibility required

An established international law firm in the heart of Leeds is looking to welcome an experienced Legal Cashier to its busy and well-established finance team on a 12-month fixed term contract.

With a strong reputation in its sector and exciting plans for significant growth over the next 18 months, it’s a great time to join a business that is going places and could perhaps lead to a perm role eventually.

This is a hands-on cashiering role supporting the team with the day-to-day management of both client and office account transactions. You’ll be responsible for processing payments and receipts, completing daily bank reconciliations, managing transfers, dealing with multi-currency transactions and ensuring all activity is processed accurately and in line with Solicitors Accounts Rules.

You’ll be joining an experienced and supportive finance team and will report into the Legal Cashiering Manager. The role would suit someone who enjoys working in a structured environment, takes real pride in accuracy and is comfortable working to regular deadlines.

As this is a 12-month fixed term contract, the client is ideally looking for someone who is immediately available or working with a short notice period of no more than a couple of weeks.

Why this role stands out:

  • 12-month fixed term contract with an established international law firm
  • Salary up to £37,000 depending on experience
  • Charity and community days
  • Bonus scheme and regular salary reviews
  • Structured training and development
  • Health and wellbeing support
  • Friendly, people-first culture with regular team events
  • Opportunity to work within an experienced and established finance function

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting the cashiering team with all aspects of day-to-day legal cashiering
  • Processing client and office receipts accurately and efficiently
  • Making client and office payments via CHAPS, cheque and file upload
  • Processing a high volume of office account transactions, including supplier invoices, disbursements, travel costs and staff expenses
  • Processing transactions across multiple currencies and international jurisdictions
  • Completing daily bank reconciliations and resolving any discrepancies
  • Dealing with client-to-office transfers and ensuring these are processed correctly
  • Ensuring deposit interest is paid on each matter when due
  • Entering and allocating transactions accurately within the finance system
  • Liaising with other offices, fee earners and internal teams to resolve queries and provide support
  • Maintaining accurate supplier records and assisting with supplier queries where required
  • Managing petty cash and firm credit card transactions, including checking receipts and approvals
  • Assisting with month-end processes, reconciliations and supporting documentation
  • Ensuring all cashiering activity complies with Solicitors Accounts Rules, VAT requirements and internal financial controls
  • Supporting audits, reporting and ongoing improvements to processes and controls

What we’re looking for:

  • End to end experience in a similar Legal Cashier role within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Good working knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules
  • Experience with bank reconciliations and payment processing
  • Strong attention to detail and a thorough approach to processes and authorisations
  • Highly organised and methodical, with the ability to manage a busy workload and meet regular deadlines
  • A strong team player who is comfortable building relationships across different departments and levels of the firm

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes pride in getting things right, is comfortable working within a process-driven environment and can remain calm and organised when dealing with a busy workload and competing deadlines
