JOB PURPOSE

• To compile estimates on how much it will cost to provide a client or potential client with the supply of products and services offered by the Company.
• To calculate how much a project is likely to cost and create budgets accordingly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Examine and analyse tender documentation in order to prepare time, cost, materials and labour estimates
• Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
• Consult with clients, suppliers, personnel in internal departments and site personnel to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
• Confer with relevant personnel on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
• Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organising and scheduling work
• Produce analytically priced Bill of Quantities
• Prepare Preliminaries
• Prepare estimates for use in selecting suppliers or subcontractors
• Review material and labour requirements to decide whether it is more cost effective to produce or purchase components
• Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals throughout the duration of the project
• Conduct relevant reviews to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction
• Establish and maintain the tendering process and conduct negotiations
• Ensure effective handover of tender to construction team
• Maintain knowledge of current market trends, practices and products
• Ensure all sensitive and confidential information is held and communicated in accordance with the Data Protection Act
• Complete all administration tasks in a timely, accurate and legible manner
• Work without supervision
• Demonstrate a commitment to own personal development within the role

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 

• Degree in Commercial Management or equivalent
• Knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Project and Word, and the sue of Conquest Estimating Software would be advantageous
• Experience of Estimating in Construction Management / or the ability to quickly learn and understand the role of Estimator
• Experience of managing budgets and plans
• The ability to read and understand technical drawings and understand technical drawings and architect’s plans and interpret their content and technical specification
