We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Information Governance Officer (Transport) to join our Information Governance team.

As our Principal Information Governance Officer (Transport), you will play a vital role in providing specialist information governance support for major transport projects across the Combined Authority’s Transport programmes, projects and functions, ensuring the Combined Authority meets its legal obligations under the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, Freedom of Information Act (FOI) 2000 and Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

You will be working closely with colleagues in Transport to provide a customer focussed, high performing and proactive information governance service, providing expert advice to officers on information management, exemptions/exceptions under FOI/EIR understanding and applying the public interest test and providing expert advice on data protection law.

Our team operates in a fast-paced environment with a focus on compliance and delivery.

This post is subject to vetting clearance.

Due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement that the successful applicant will be subject to relevant vetting checks at the appropriate level and any job offer will be conditional subject to successful vetting clearance. Applicants should be aware that it is not possible to make meaningful vetting enquiries in many jurisdictions outside the UK. Vetting clearance cannot therefore be granted if the applicant has not been resident in the UK for the relevant minimum period and comparable vetting enquiries cannot be made in jurisdictions where the individual has been residing.
The relevant periods are three years for NPPV 1&2 and five years for NPPV3. Further guidance can be found here.

  • Take the lead and provide expertise on specialist areas of information governance compliance including data sharing to deliver against major transport programmes
  • Support the strategic development of the Information Governance function and lead on the development and maintenance of appropriate policies, procedures and systems to support each aspect of information governance and work in partnership with the Combined Authority’s Officers, external stakeholders and partner authorities to ensure compliance
  • Provide expert advice to Combined Authority officers on complex FOI, EIR and DPA information requests to ensure maximum transparency is achieved, making judgments where necessary

About You

You will have the following key skills, attributes, education, and experience:

  • Knowledge of data protection, freedom of information and transparency, records management matters and related legislation
  • Experience of effectively contributing to department objectives.
  • Practical experience of successfully performing in a similar role
  • An understanding of information governance in the delivery of projects and large-scale programmes
  • Strong communication skills with the proven ability to influence, negotiate and challenge.
