Location: LS1 - hybrid - 2 days work from home

Salary £27,000

About The Role

As a Payroll Assistant, you'll play an important part in making sure our workers are paid accurately and on time every week. You'll work closely with candidates, clients and payroll companies to check timesheets, process starter details, handle queries, manage tax and pension updates, and support the smooth running of our weekly payroll cycle.

Supporting weekly payroll

• Processing weekly timesheets and checking they're correct
• Spotting duplicates or errors and fixing them before payroll runs
• Syncing payroll systems and keeping data up to date
• Applying adjustments such as holiday pay, deductions or corrections

Helping new starters get set up

• Calling new starters to collect the details needed for payment
• Sending starter information to payroll companies
• Checking bank details and making sure workers are set up correctly

Tax, pension and compliance

• Updating tax codes when changes come through
• Checking pension opt-outs and helping with monthly pension submissions
• Sending weekly FPS submissions
• Keeping records accurate and compliant with HMRC rules

Payments and BACS

• Preparing BACS payments for workers and payroll companies
• Sending hours and payment instructions to payroll companies
• Handling occasional exceptions where payments need to be adjusted manually

Invoices and payslips

• Preparing weekly invoices and sending them to the finance team
• Making sure payslips are delivered on time each week

General admin and communication

• Managing the payroll inbox and responding to queries
• Keeping data up to date, such as attachment of earnings
• Supporting the team with other weekly payroll tasks

• Good attention to detail
• Confidence working with numbers and checking information
• Strong organisation skills, especially with weekly deadlines
• A friendly communication style when speaking with workers and clients
• The ability to follow processes and handle multiple tasks at once
• Payroll experience is helpful but not essential, as full training is provided
