About the role
We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our growing Data Centres team in Leeds. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering resilient, high-performance and sustainable electrical engineering solutions for mission-critical data centre environments.
You will work on technically complex projects across the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction, testing and commissioning. You will take ownership of electrical design deliverables, lead elements of project delivery and work closely with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to ensure robust, compliant and operationally effective solutions.
Our Leeds office has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the North and further afield. You will join a collaborative and highly knowledgeable team working on some of the most technically demanding projects in the built environment, including hyperscale and colocation data centres, critical infrastructure, advanced technology facilities and other high-performance environments.
Our Data Centres team works at the forefront of the sector, helping clients address increasing demands for capacity, resilience, energy efficiency and operational continuity. We combine technical excellence with practical delivery to create solutions that are reliable, adaptable and aligned with client and operator requirements.
Working alongside electrical, mechanical, public health, digital and specialist engineering teams, you will contribute to the successful delivery of projects where quality, coordination and attention to detail are essential.
In this key and varied role, you can expect to:
- Lead electrical design activities from feasibility and concept through to detailed design, construction, testing and commissioning.
- Develop electrical strategies and systems for mission-critical environments, including LV distribution, power generation, UPS systems, standby power, resilience and redundancy.
- Produce electrical calculations, schematics, drawings, specifications and technical reports in accordance with relevant regulations, standards, design guides and client requirements.
- Contribute to the development of electrical infrastructure that supports availability, maintainability, operational flexibility and future expansion.
- Coordinate electrical services with mechanical, public health, structural, architectural, digital and specialist engineering disciplines.
- Work with clients, operators, contractors, manufacturers and specialist suppliers to understand requirements and develop coordinated design solutions.
- Review contractor and subcontractor technical submissions, drawings, calculations, equipment selections and proposed changes.
- Attend design reviews, client meetings, technical workshops and project progress meetings.
- Check site installations against the design intent and provide technical support during the construction phase.
- Witness or support testing and commissioning activities, including electrical systems and critical plant, and contribute to handover documentation.
- Manage your own workload and coordinate project deliverables to meet programme, quality and budget requirements.
- Take responsibility for the electrical discipline on smaller projects or for significant elements of larger and more complex data centre schemes.
- Delegate, manage and check work undertaken by other engineers and technicians.
- Support and mentor junior colleagues, helping to develop technical capability within the team.
- Contribute to project risk management, scope development, cost control and commercial performance.
- Build effective relationships with clients and contribute to the development of future opportunities within the Data Centres team.
About you
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
- Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Building Services Engineering; industry membership preferred.
- Working towards or holding IEng/CEng.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical building services and critical power systems; able to produce and review calculations and drawings.
- An understanding of the design considerations associated with data centres, mission-critical facilities or other high-availability environments.
- Proficiency with relevant industry software, such as Revit, AutoCAD, Amtech/OM Electrical, Dialux and Microsoft Office.
- Experience reviewing contractor submissions and providing technical support during construction.
- The ability to work independently, take ownership of deliverables and lead the electrical design on projects or significant project elements.
