Contract type: Full time
Civica
We're Civica and we make software that helps deliver critical services for citizens all around the world. From local to state government, to education, to health and care, over 5,000 public bodies across the globe use our software to help provide critical services to over 100 million citizens.

Our aspiration is to be a GovTech champion everywhere we work around the globe, supporting the needs of citizens and those that serve them every day. Building on 21 years of continuous growth and success, we're at a pivotal point on our journey to realise that aspiration.

Why you'll love this role of IT Hardware Engineer

This is a hands-on role at the heart of our End User Services team, helping make sure our UK colleagues have the technology they need to do their best work.

Based from our Leeds office, you'll take ownership of hardware throughout its lifecycle, from preparing and deploying new laptops and devices through to troubleshooting, stock management, refresh, redeployment and disposal.

It's a great opportunity for someone who enjoys technology but equally enjoys working with people. You don't need to be a deep technical specialist. We're looking for someone with good practical IT knowledge who takes ownership, communicates confidently and is keen to learn.

You'll join an experienced team where you'll have the opportunity to build your knowledge, contribute ideas and make a visible difference to the service we provide to colleagues across Civica.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the lifecycle of laptops, desktops, mobile phones and peripherals
  • Prepare, pre-provision, deploy, refresh, redeploy and decommission end-user devices
  • Support device deployment using Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot
  • Troubleshoot routine hardware, deployment and device enrolment issues
  • Use Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint for relevant device and compliance checks
  • Maintain accurate hardware asset, stock and inventory records
  • Coordinate purchasing, deliveries, returns, repairs, reuse and disposal of equipment
  • Carry out hands-on device preparation, checks, wiping and stock management from our Leeds office
  • Manage hardware incidents and service requests through our ITSM system
  • Provide occasional onsite support for meeting-room AV equipment and other end-user technology
  • Work with suppliers, couriers and internal teams to ensure equipment reaches colleagues when they need it
  • Keep users informed and provide a friendly, professional and responsive service
  • Share knowledge with colleagues and contribute to improvements in processes, documentation and knowledge articles

Requirements

  • Previous experience in an IT hardware, IT support, desktop support, End User Computing or similar hands-on technology role
  • Good working knowledge of Windows, with practical familiarity with macOS advantageous
  • Experience troubleshooting laptops, desktops, peripherals and other end-user hardware
  • Practical experience with Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot for device preparation, enrolment and deployment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
  • Experience using an ITSM system to manage incidents and service requests
  • Experience maintaining hardware asset and stock information
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, both face-to-face and remotely
  • A proactive approach, with the confidence to take ownership and get things moving
  • Organised, reliable and comfortable managing competing priorities
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to share knowledge and learn from others

Nice to have:

  • Experience with IT asset management tools such as Lansweeper or Snow
  • Experience supporting Apple Mac devices
  • Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate / MD-102, or working towards this qualification

A Little More About The Role

This is an operational hardware and device-delivery position rather than an endpoint engineering role. You'll use tools including Intune, Autopilot and Entra ID to prepare devices and resolve routine deployment and enrolment issues, working alongside our specialist Modern Workplace and Security teams where deeper platform, policy or security expertise is required.

The role is based in our Leeds office five days a week due to the hands-on nature of preparing, managing and distributing physical IT equipment. Working hours can offer some flexibility around standard office hours.

We Want You to Bring Your Whole Self to Work

There is no such thing as the perfect candidate, so if you think you have what it takes but don't necessarily meet every single point on the list above, please still get in touch. We'd love to have a chat and see if you could be a great fit.
