Setting Out Engineer – BESS / Substations

Contract: 6 months

IR35 Status: Outside IR35

Rate: £350–£400 per day

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am–5:00pm

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Setting Out Engineer to join a civils contractor delivering BESS and substation projects across Yorkshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a strong civil engineering background and previous experience working on power infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of site-based civil engineering works, including setting out, quality checks and coordinating subcontractors to ensure works are completed in line with project specifications and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Carrying out setting out for civil engineering works on site.
• Ensuring works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Supporting the delivery of groundworks, drainage, ducting, earthworks and concrete works.
• Coordinating and monitoring subcontractors on site.
• Checking dimensions, levels and alignment to ensure accuracy.
• Maintaining accurate site records and quality documentation.
• Liaising with the Site Manager and wider project team to support the delivery programme.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience as a Setting Out Engineer on civils projects.
• Valid National Grid Persons ticket (EUSR).
• Experience working on BESS, substation or other power infrastructure projects.
• Previous experience coordinating or managing subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of civil engineering works, including groundworks, drainage, ducting and concrete.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

• £350–£400 per day.

• Monday to Friday, 7:30am–5:00pm.
